Film Canister Fireball

This is a similar recipe that is sometimes used in movies for special effects. It causes a loud explosion
that instantaneousley goes up in flames. It's kinda hard to make if you're not familiar with this
type of pyrotechnics but it'll get easier after a few times.

Ingredients

  • 1 film canister (look for the all black ones with 'HDPE' on the bottom)
  • visco fuse
  • black or smokeless powder
  • ziploc or other plastic baggie
  • hot glue
  • gasoline

    Procedure

    1. Drill or punch a hole about 1/4" up from the bottom of the film canister, large enough for the fuse to be snug.

    2. Insert the fuse about half way into the canister. Be sure there is enough left hanging out to light and get out of there! Seal the fuse with hot glue on the outside ONLY. Be careful because the hot glue gun could soften the plastic. (you don't want this)

    3. Pour enough explosive to fill the canister about 3/8 of the way. Pack it lightly

    4. This is the tricky part. Pour some gasoline into a ziploc or some other kind of plastic baggie you have sitting around the house. Hold the baggie from one of the top corners so the gas flows into one corner. After there is about 1/2" of gas in the corner, twist the corner so it makes a little pouch of gasoline. You must have about half of the baggie full of air. When twisted correctly, use a twist-tie or a small rubberband to seal the puch off from the rest of the baggie. Cut the pouch off. If done correctly, no gas should leak from the pouch.

    5. Place the baggie corner of gas on top of the film canister. It should hang down into the canister. Leave a little lip of baggie hanging out. Seal the cap on so it clips onto the little lip of baggie you left. BE SURE THE GAS BAGGIE IS SUSPENDED IN THE CANISTER. Now, use hot glue to seal the cap on, keeping the baggie suspended by, the lip thingy. Only use glue on the out side.

    6. Your fireball is done. Light. Run.
