Marik Ishtar
Marik, being the firstborn of a Tomb Keeper's family, was given the burden of carrying the Pharaoh's Secret on his back forever. At the age of eleven, his father performed the ritual, which included the carving of the ancient symbols and text using a scalding knife upon his son's back. Now, with the secret engraved into his back, Marik was forbidden to go above ground, condemning him to the life of a Tomb Keeper. His sister, however, thought it only fair for her brother to see the light of day at least once in his life. She brought him above ground and into the city; however, their father, who had set an alarm, knew of their disappearence and was about to kill Odion for allowing both his children, particularily Marik, to leave the safety of the underground. Upon seeing Odion fall to the ground in pain after Mr. Ishtar slashed him across the back with a whip, Marik's anger grew past the breaking point- and a new evil was born: Yami Marik. He stole one of the Millennium Items the Ishtar family had been safeguarding, and used its powers to immobilize and kill his father. When Marik came to his senses, his father's body lay mangled and limp on the floor- his deep red blood staining the dust covered stone. As the essence of Shadi rose and said this to be the Pharaoh's will, Marik swore to both seek, overrule, and kill him.
