Anne unleashed the black energy. Out of reflex, Caitlin leapt out in front, generating a barrier of light to deflect the attack. When both energies dissipated, both women were glaring harshly at the other.
Hm, seems like youve still got some spunk left, Daughter of Light. Annes eyes flicked to Marina, who had just transformed (authors note: Only Marina is transformed, the others are still their normal human selves). *What do you plan to do, little sis?* Anne thought to Marina.
Im going to kill you, whether I like it or not. Marina replied, gripping her staff. Her gold eyes closed in determination. She gathered her strength to take away what life Anne had. Anne grinned widely and was suddenly behind Marina. She had moved faster than the human eye could see.
You cant bring yourself to kill me. Anne whispered in Marinas ear. Marinas eyes flashed wide. In an instant, Anne wrapped her arms around Marinas middle and they both disappeared into thin air.
MARINA!!!!!! Cassandra screamed. MARINA!!!!!!!!
Pathetic Guardians, Ill bring her back once Im done with her. I only wish to spend some time with my delicious little sister. Annes voice echoed (authors note: I hope you all cringed, or twitched, at that line).
I cant believe they just went off without us!! Mark exclaimed. Joe had been the first to sense the battle, sensing that dark magic. Then Kevin had tracked down the Guardians with his psychic abilities. They were racing to the graveyard. When they arrived where the Guardians where, the fight was all ready over.
Hey, what happened? Rhodry asked, going over to Caitlins side.
It..... It was Anne. She said. Marks eyes flew wide and he froze in place. He looked at her.
What? He breathed, unbelieving.
Our new enemy is Anne. Heather stated for him. Mark remembered the last time he had seen his little sister. It was 500 years ago, when she had first become a vampire. Back then, she had at least some shred of humanity left in her. But now, she must be completely demon, for she was fighting her once closest friends.
Where did she go? Mark demanded.
We dont know. But where ever she went, she took Marina with her. Abby said. Marks eyes narrowed slightly. Marina, Annes twin. He didnt even know he had two sisters, for Anne and Marina were separated at birth. If their parents were still alive, hed ask why they had given up Marina (authors note: I think we needed to explain Marina and Cassandras sudden appearance and being Anne and Caitlins twins. Er, well, Ive explained Marina.). Mark grumbled, running a hand through his hair. Kevin looked at Mark and set a hand on his shoulder.
Dont worry, well find them and get Marina back. Kevin said gently, looking Mark in the eye. Mark sighed.
I know. I just dont know what to do. One of my sisters is evil and captured my other sister. I just dont know whether I should kill the evil one or try to save her.
Theres no saving Anne, Mark. Shes not human anymore. Shes not the adoring little sister you once had. Heather said. Mark looked at her with sorrowful dark eyes.
I can sense that, but I refuse to believe it. No matter what, shes still my sister. Mark said, with an edge to his voice.
Anne reappeared, still holding Marina. Anne had taken Marina to an abandoned temple in the mountains of China. Anne let Marina go and just stood there, gazing at her sister, hunger and longing in her eyes (authors note: Oh how I love to disturb peoples minds)(editors note: We noticed). Marina took a few steps away from Anne and turned to face her.
Where are we? She asked.
A temple in China. Buddhist monks used to live her, but they abandoned it 100 years ago. I brought you here so we could talk. Marina looked at Anne, trying to read what her sister was up to. You seem very curious to know what Ive been up to these past 500 years. I brought you here to tell you. No, I mean show you. Anne stepped towards Marina, but she took a step back. Anne grinned and was suddenly right in front of Marina, arms around her back, pulling her tight against her body. You arent getting away, little sis. Anne said quietly, almost deviously. Marina tried to break free of Annes grip, growing uncomfortable.
Anne, let me go. Marina pleaded, fear creeping into her gold eyes. Anne leaned in and pressed her lips against Marinas in a cold kiss. Marinas eyes flared wide. She pressed her hands against Annes shoulders, trying to push her away, but Anne didnt budge. In the next moment, Annes memories flowed into Marina, playing across her vision as if they had been her own.
Marina saw Lantis and the night he and Anne had spent together. Next came Tenaka.
Anne deepened the kiss and pulled Marina even closer. Marina stopped resisting.
Next came the night Anne and Tenaka spent together. Marina knew how much Anne had loved Tenaka, she felt it as if though she had loved Tenaka.
Anne broke the kiss, but the images stayed in Marinas vision. Anne slid her lips down to Marinas neck. The next instant she slid her fangs into Marinas neck.
This brought about how Lantis and Tenaka had died. A tear slid down Marinas cheek, seeing what pain her sister had been, and still was, in. Then she saw the daughter, Lantis daughter, grow to hate her mother. She saw Tenakas brother and how he lusted for Anne. Marina saw the son the two had together.
Then, she saw how Anne failed her test as the Guardian of Darkness and how she was doomed to be consumed by and merge with the original Guardian of Darkness, Ceres.
All these images came one after another, taking Marinas breath away. Anne slid her fangs out of Marinas neck a minute later and let go of the woman. Marina stumbled backwards and caught herself. She looked at Anne, her eyes still wide.
Anne,
Dont say anything, Marina. Theres nothing anyone can say that can ease the pain. For a moment, it was Anne, and only Anne, that was speaking. Marina could see it in her eyes that it was her sister, the one she had searched for, for so many long years. Marina ran to her and hugged her viciously.
Please, Ceres, let Anne go. I need my sister. Marina whispered. In another instant, Annes body had changed into that of Ceres. Marina pulled back and looked at her. Waist length black hair, gold eyes, pale skin, black feathered wings and the robe of the Guardian of Darkness defined her as being Ceres and not Anne.
She cannot be let go, Marina. She failed her test and this is the price she must pay. Ceres said.
Part of the price is that she must destroy the world? Marina demanded. Ceres smirked.
No, my dear, shell be dead by that time. I am the Bringer and once I am here, I will destroy. I only refrain from killing you now to appease Annes wishes of killing you later. Marinas eyes narrowed.
Those arent her wishes, those are your wishes, twisted around so you can cause her even more pain! Ceres smiled and shrugged.
So what if they are? What difference do they make? Shes all ready made her decision and no one can change it. With that, Ceres melted back into Anne.
Now you know what Ive been up to for 500 years. Anne said. Marina just stood there, somewhat dumbfounded by everything she had just acquired. She was also kind of disgusted that her sister had kissed her and then bit her. Marinas hand lifted to her neck and clamped over the bite mark there. Dont worry, I didnt take any of your blood if thats what youre wondering.
Why did you kiss me? Im your sister for Gods sake! Marin finally exclaimed. Anne just looked at her.
I wanted to feel something again.
So you had to go and kiss me?! Marina squealed. Anne shrugged.
Come on, Marina, it was just a kiss. Its not like I fucked you or anything. At that, Marina just wanted to throw up. Anne grinned widely, loving how she made the woman uncomfortable. Come on, its not like you havent fucked a girl before, much less kissed one. Marinas eyes flashed dangerously.
Dont you dare talk about Cass.
Why not? Shes your lover, Marina. Ive done the same thing you have, Marina, you know that for a fact. Marina opened her mouth to make a come back, but clamped it shut, knowing it was futile. I guess we really are alike, and not only in appearance.
No. Im not a demon like you. Marina snarled.
I was wondering how long it would take you to call me that. That leaves only two people left on my side. Marina looked at Anne questioningly.
Two?
Ceres and Tenaka, of course.
Anne, Tenakas dead. Shes been dead for 500 years. Hell, youre the one that fucking killed her!! Marina exclaimed.
I know shes dead, Marina, but shes not gone. Even in death, Sire and Childer still hold a bond and can communicate. For 500 years, shes been a spirit drifting by my side. Marina felt an icy shudder run through her. A smile spread across Annes face, for that shudder was result of Tenakas hand brushing Marinas cheek.
*I am here, Marina. I know you know who I am, so theres no need for introductions.* Tenaka spoke to her. Marina was frozen, not knowing what to do. She could see Tenakas faint form standing in front of her. She was only an inch or two taller than her, thus being the same amount taller than Anne. Tenaka smiled. *So glad we finally meet, Guardian of Life.* With that, Tenaka dissipated, then reappeared at Annes side.
You see? Shes been right here the entire time. And Ceres has been here, too. Together, we will bring about the Eternal Night and after that, it will be the end for everything. Anne proclaimed.
Kashya and Morgan were walking along the streets in the city. Kashya despised humans. She hated how they lived as if they were the supreme beings on this forsaken planet. If only they knew of the supernatural beings that walked the night, and sometimes even walked among the humans themselves, they would learn their place. For no human, not even human weapons could stand up to a supernatural being.
Kashya ran a hand through her long black hair. Even though she despised humans, she despised her mother more. She refused to even call, or acknowledge, that Anne was her mother. Long ago, when Kashya had gone back to Anne only to take Morgan away, she thought she was doing the right thing, saving Morgan. However, he turned out to love and adore their mother.
Ill never understand why you love that woman, Morgan. Morgan glanced at Kashya.
And Ill never understand completely why you hate her. Kashya glared at him.
She cheated on my father and you were the result.
No offense, but your father had been dead for quite some time, so she was quite free to do so. Besides, it wasnt like the two had been married. Morgan said. A wind picked up and played with Morgans long brown hair. Kashya was fuming with rage but she knew better than to argue with Morgan. He tended to be stubborn like that. Instead, Kashya just grumbled to herself.
He could tell the vampire had disappeared and the threat dissipated, at least for the moment. He slowed his motorcycle down as he entered the city limits. He sighed slightly.
This ones going to be harder to kill than any other vampire Ive killed. He thought. He let his mind wander for the time being, seeing as there was no threat to him at the moment.
No one knew how old he was. He always traveled alone and kept to himself. He cursed his parents and he cursed himself. He hated being half-vampire, half-human. He known simply as D (authors note: Ok, please no one smack me for sticking him in here. I thought hed be fun to put in this series). More than anything, he wanted to be at peace with himself. He also wanted to make sure that vampires wouldnt spread their evil across the Earth, so he made it his duty to eradicate as many of them as possible. And right now, Anne was the top vampire and he knew she could control all the other vampires. If she wanted, she could control him, too.
