Van�s brother, Folken, disappeared after setting off to kill a dragon as apart of the crowning custom. His mother set off to find his brother, but never came back. Some say that she died or was forever lost because of her insanity. Van had lost most of his family at the age of five. Goau, Van�s dad, had a right hand man called Balgus. He was a master swordsman and had great devotion to the royal family. He raised and taught Van all he knew. So Van wasn�t let totally unattended to. He was also now the oldest male of what�s left of the royal family. During his childhood, he had one very spunky friend named Merle. She was half a cat girl, and was orphaned because some angry villagers wiped out her tribe. She was adopted by the Fanel family and became like a little too over protective sister to Van. I really have no idea if Merle�s love for Van surpasses sibling love or not, but ehh it doesn�t really affect the story that much. Anyways, Van grew up alone, despite Merle�s attention, and he tried to harden his heart so no one can hurt him if they figure out his secrets. In the begging episodes, he�s arrogant and stubborn towards everyone. But after figuring out what happened to his family, to his kingdom, what�s going to happen to his world, and for the sake of everyone he loves (ehhemm�Hitomi), he changes for the better. |
