Monday March 31st, 2003:  Thoughts of Springtime.

Well, its the last day of March.  I suppose there is much to write, but I have been very restless for the past several weeks and havent had the motivation or discipline to do much of anything.  I have managed to get some yard work done.  Mostly just a lot of raking and burning off the fallen twigs and branches from the winter season.  It has been nice for the last week except for yesterday when it snowed.  It had been in the 70s and then we got about three inches of snow the last two days.  It is supposed to get back up into the 70s later this week and we may see only a few more light snow showers this season.

So anyway, I guess I have been a little stir crazy or have been experiencing a bit of spring fever.  This is my favorite season but it is also the time when I am most restless.  Everything is coming to life, waking up from the long winter slumber and I want so much to be a part of it all.  I am working 5 days a week again as one of the girls walked out a few weeks ago and I am looking forward to going back to only 4 days a week.  It will be nice once that happens and with the warmer temperatures I will be able to turn off the gas soon as I wont need to heat the house anymore.  Spooky is happy now that she has been able to spend some time outside and wants to spend more and more time outdoors.  I cant say I blame her, I feel the same way.  I have begun to level out the pits and dips in the yard though it will take several years to do all I want.

My friend Kerry and I have taken a few day trips.  One to OhioPyle and one to the Coopers rock area.  I took some nice pictures and shared them all with my coworkers.  Though it is nice to get out and explore the area again I must admit that I am a bit homesick for the Sierras and the Pacific coast.  This is also partially because of the overall attitude of the area.  I see more and more the differences in societal attitudes between what I was accustomed to in Tracy and those of my new home here.  The overall attitude here is markedly more close minded and perhaps a bit nave.  There are exceptions of course, especially with some of the younger people, but overall it is as though people cant see or imagine a bigger world out there.  Perhaps it is just because I have traveled to so many places and experienced so many cultural differences.  I guess thats why I tend to like Morgantown so much more than here.  With all the College students from all over the nation and even the world, the diversity level there is much more what I am used to.  I find myself wondering if I will actually want to live here the rest of my life.

Well, I dont really know what else to write.  My restlessness seems to keep me from contemplating deeply on any particular subject.  Hopefully I will find the time to get outside and explore a bit more.  There are many sights to see, right here in my own backyard and all around the area.  In fact today I just walked down the road to try to get a picture of a partially albino robin that I first noticed last year.  It has the typical red breast, but otherwise it is all white and cream colored.  It is a bit shy however and I didnt get the best picture I could, but perhaps an opportunity will present itself as the weather warms.  I hope this spring fever doesnt last too long.
