Rinoa and Yumenegau took a seat in the parlor. It looked as well kept as ever, clean and tidy. Though small amounts of dust accumulated on the various furniture items. Caraway entered the room shocked to find his daughter and someone he didn't know, waiting for him. Beyond words Caraway took a seat across the room from them. "Rinoa, it's good to see you again. Who is this?" He nodded towards the Squall look-a-like.
Before Rinoa could open her mouth, her knight spoke up for himself, "I am Squall Leonhart." A mysterious smile crossed his lips suddenly, "Rinoa is my fiance."
Deep inside, Rinoa's real self almost screamed in shock, she felt her eyes bulge, but quickly nodded in agreement, eying Yumenegau with fury. The tall man just kept his smile.
Feeling slightly irritated, Rinoa looked to her father, "Many things have happened. I realize I was wrong to not want my Father in my life." She masked her evil face with sincerity and longing, "I only wish I could make up for all the time I've been so naive, and kept myself away from home. I want to make up for it."
Something clicked inside of Caraway as he stared at Rinoa. Her eyes were hypnotic and he felt himself giving in to her, "Welcome home, Rinoa. You are free to stay here as long as you like. I'm so glad you're back."
Rinoa's sad expression turned into the heartwarming smile of a little girl, long gone. Yumenegau pretended to be happy about the reunion. Soon, he would be back in Esthar with work to do on his own. 'This is all seriously, more complicated than she thinks.' The sorceress beside him read his mind and turned to him with confidence. 'No, it's not.'
For the next four days Rinoa hung around her father as he did his daily business. Every once in a while she would start up conversations off subject. Conversations about how the Forest Owls were wrong as a resistance group and other various matters. She tried to make it less obvious that she was sucking up by talking about the Galbadian Army and admiring the mansion.
While Caraway was happy to see Rinoa again, and so agreeable and happy, he couldn't help but think that something weird was going on. What had made him so open to her when he saw her in the parlor four days ago. While he hid his thoughts from expressions, he still got an uneasy feeling she knew what he was thinking. It was late, 2:27 AM and he decided he would retire to bed. Rinoa had gone to bed not long ago. Caraway sat in his office thinking on the matter of Rinoa's sudden return. As much as Caraway respected and loved his daughter he made his next decision wisely.
With a shaky hand he picked up a phone and dialed the number.
Due to current matters in Balamb Gardens Squall had been placed in charge of the whole Garden. Squall's status showed he had everything needed to fill in Cid's position until they relocated the headmaster. Squall had been displeased on hearing he was being placed head of the Garden.
It was a restless night for Squall as he sat in entrance way to the main garden complex. He had been sitting there for an hour, thinking. The Garden was functioning properly even without the headmaster, but there were still problems. Faculty members were running short, and classes were small. Balamb was far from empty, but it wasn't as lively as before.
Squall was in midthought about finding Irvine dead when a man came running in. The man stopped panicking slightly as he saw no one to greet him. "Oh no..."
The dark-haired SeeD stood up from his place against the wall, "Can I help you?"
The man turned to him. His short black hair was tied in the back, out of his face, he almost jumped, "I need to speak to the Garden Headmaster."
Squall spoke flatly, "The headmaster is on away business, I am in charge of the garden for now. Can I help you?"
The man nodded frowning. "I bring message from General Caraway-"
Squall felt his hand travel to the hilt of his gunblade, "Of the Galbadian Army?"
The man nodded and continued, "It's an odd story, he requests immediate assistance. He thinks he's in danger. It's too long to explain..."
Staring straight into the man's face Squall spoke toneless, "You have to explain."
The man took a deep breath and began. "Four days ago the General's daughter, Rinoa, returned to his home with her fiance, a man named Squall Leonhart. Rinoa was a member of a resistance group against the Galbadian Army, controlled by her father. She showed up out of the blue four days ago and has slowly been interrogating him on the army and... He thinks she's up to something. He sent me to find help from here. Just to keep an on her in case anything happens. The SeeDs will be undercover, if that helps. Though," the man sighed.
"Leonhart left on the second day of their arrival. General Caraway says she changes the subject whenever he asks a question about them, or where he went. He says she's acting strange, and he knows something is wrong. He called this morning around 2:30 and said it was an emergency." The man nodded.
Squall stood shocked, 'Her fiance? Squall Leonhart?' Squall nodded, "Take the elevator to the third floor office and wait, I will gather a team."
The man gave a salute and headed towards the elevator.
Quistis and Zell met Squall in the hallway, before either could question what was going on Squall asked, "Is Selphie up for a mission?"
Quistis opened her mouth to say something, but was cut off when the curly brown haired SeeD, in her yellow dress, bounced up to them all, "You bet I am!" She smiled cheerfully and turned to Squall, "I couldn't sleep and went for a walk, I heard the whole conversation between you and that Galbadian guy! That's kind of scary! Another guy named Squall Leonhart? I didn't even know Rinoa was engaged!"
Zell and Quistis turned, eyes bulging to Squall, "What is she on about?"
Squall sighed, "Follow me."
He lead the group of SeeDs through the Garden, up to the third story office. The Galbadian quickly explained to the two blond SeeDs of the happenings. They all agreed to except the mission.
"Be at the front gate of Caraway's mansion at 8:30 AM, a man will meet you saying, 'I like to watch the travelers walk buy,' you will say, 'I like to travel on a bus.' Okay?" The man stood, ready to leave.
Squall nodded as the man left.
When the Galbadian was gone, Quistis turned to Squall, "While we're gone, who will be in charge, in your place?"
Squall walked to the elevator, "Wait here while I find Nida."
