It's black waters were still, it's gray shores untouched, and it's eloquent amethyst sky, glowing with stars. Like someone had splashed magic across it. She held her hand up to the beautiful moon, glowing with brilliance. Then she heard it.
A soft trudge, she heard from close behind her. She turned slowly to greet her visitor. A tall man stood before her. The crown of his head hidden by a cowboy hat, so familiar. His long hair was tied in the back and his long trench coat hung on him, he looked unblemished by the world Selphie new so well.
"Irvine?" She felt her heart quicken as she looked up into his smiling face.
"Sefi..." He pulled her towards himself and hugged her tightly.
Selphie felt happier than ever before at that moment, then he let go. The cold, lonely, feeling returned suddenly. Irvine's face grew sad, "Why do you dream in black, Sefi?"
Selphie looked down to her feet, "You're gone.."she whispered. "You died... in that fight."
Irvine lifted her chin, to look into her eyes. "Forget about it. I am still here Sefi."
The girl in the yellow dress gave him a distant smile, "I miss you."
He placed his hand on her shoulder, "I'm here, for whenever you need me. I'll be here waiting for you, so when you've lived your life through..." he pointed off across the ocean to a bright light, hazy but beautiful. "When life is over for you..we can go there together. As friends.. whatever we are.. Until then, I'll wait here for you."
Selphie smiled as her eyes flooded with tears.
"Don't cry, Sefi.." The tall man in his cowboy hat leaned forward and kissed her lightly on her lips. Selphie stood before him in amazement and sadness, her tears coming harder than ever before. She hugged him tightly until he pulled her off, gently, "Come see me sometime, Sefi... If you need me, I'll come to you."
He slowly turned around and walked off along the shore, the moonlight making his silhouette featureless. His hopeful words were meant to be happy and comforting, but now Selphie felt more alone than ever. Watching him walk off in the distance she couldn't help but reach out for him. "Don't leave me in the dark, Irvine... I need you now..." She whispered softly as a cool breeze brushed by.
'You don't need me now, Sefi. You need to get through this in the real world, you have to move on. Living in a dream world will not help you move on. Go back to the others, let them help you. I'll be here when you really need me, but I can't help you in this. Don't let go and don't loose hope, Sefi.' The words echoed through her mind, he had answered her. She knew he was right, but she didn't want to believe him.
Reluctantly she watched as his figure vanished completely, "I think I'm okay now... Thank you, Irvine..." She paused, listening to soft song of the wind and looked back at the vacant spot, where he had stood only moments ago, " ...I love you..."
A gentle wave splashed against her bare feet, and she slowly reentered reality. Looking up to her dorm room ceiling, feeling the cold draft coming from the crack beneath the door. She sat up and placed her bare feet on the cold unwelcoming floor. She looked through the window in her room and smiled.
"I still miss you..." her smile widened as she sat on the edge of her unmade bed, looking through the window, past the millions of twinkling stars scattered amongst the night sky, to the moon, shining radiantly with brilliance and grace, "... I still miss you..."
