PYM or in Norwegian is the Pentecostal Foreign
Mission, that was founded in Norway in 1906. In the following
years, hundreds of missionaries left for Africa, China and South
America. Today PYM have missionaries in 55 countries, and it is
the third largest missions-organization in Norway. Only two
lutheran organizations are larger. PYM started to work in
Guatemala in 1999. Britt and Birger Sandli felt that the Lord
directed them to this country, after have been working 10 years
in Nicaragua, and before that, 12 years in Argentina. The work
in Guatemala is together with the Asamblea de Dios, to build
schools. We have built 5 schools in Nahuala, Cubulco, Sacapulas,
Teculutan and now Livingston. The goal is to build 8 schools in 5
years. LACC(Latin American Childcare) are sponsoring a part of
the children at this schools. Three more schools are still to be
built, before the program is completed. Guatemala have
the lowest litracy of the 5 countries in C.A., with only 55 %
capable of reading and writing. The sponsors are coming from the
US and Canada. God has given us a powerful instrument in
our hands, to preach the gospel for thousands of children. Each
school have a full capacity for 5-600 children. And secondly,
thousands of parents are reached with the gospel. It is full
freedom to preach the gospel in the schools in Guatemala. The
schools are owned and operated by the local Asamblea de Dios
church in each community. Elisabeth & Roberto Sandli
joined us in August 2000. Roberto to work as an assistant project
coordinator, for two years. They are leaving now in June 2002,
after having completed their term. We will miss them,
because they have been a great blessing to us and the
work. We have also been working with churches in
Wisconsin, that have sent groups every year. These groups
consists mostly of hardworking people, and can build a
school/church in only 6-7 days. They are a great blessing to
Guatemala and the churches, and also provide a great part of the
fundings for these projects. They are also a blessing to
ourselves as a family. PYM also have an Agricultural
Training School in Sacapulas, with one Engineer Agronom and 6
Technicians working full time. The program reach 600 families,
and the goal is to give them a better understanding of how to get
more out of their land, and rise their standard of living, and
to preach the gospel to them. A similar program with 4
technicians was started in Las Cruces, in Peten, this year. The
goal there is to reach 200 families with the program.
Thank you for joining us in your prayers for the needed people
of Guatemala in Central America.
Yours in Christ, Britt
& Birger Sandli, Missionaries, PYM, Guatemala,
C.A.
