The Build

The Car:
1983 Camaro originally a 2.8 V6. Somewhat rusty but I just consider that natural lightening.

The Engine
Short Block:
4 bolt main 350. Cast crank. Stock rods with Speed Pro H618 pistons that should give 12.5:1 compression with the heads I am useing.

Heads:
Phase VI GM Bowtie aluminum heads. Angle milled for very small chambers. Fully race ported, very large ports, I would guess over 240cc intake ports. 2.08 and 1.625 Titanium valves and retainers.

Camshaft:
Chet Herbert solid camshaft. Smallest Solid cam that Chet offers. I lost the Cam card but it is around 300 degrees duration and .530 lift with the 1.6 ratio aluminum rockers I have. I think it is ground on 109 degree lobe centers.

Exhaust:
Hooker Super Competition headers going into a dual 3 inch system with a set of good flowing 3 inch mufflers.

Transmission
All stock TH350 and converter. Looking for a good manual setup.

Wheels/Tires
Diamond Racing Wheels 16X12 with 4.5 inch backspaceing. They fit pretty darn good and only stick out about 2 inches per side. Used Hoosier or Goodyear 25X13X16. Tires are from a GT1 Roadrace car.
Rear Axle
All stock for now. Open 3.08 gear 7.5 incher.

Suspension
Springs
:
725lb front, 225lb rear. unknown brand but they are circle track springs. need some spring pockets and weight jacks so I can get the rear lowered. front works great with my homemade spacers.

Bushings
:
Energy Suspension poly bushing throughout.

Shockage
:
Stock front because I am to cheap to buy new ones and good adjustable Struts are very expensive for this car. The rear has some Bilsten circle track shocks 50/50 medium valved.

Chassis
All stock 1983 Camaro. Plan on stiffening over the Winter months.

Future Plans
Lighten and stiffen the car, full cage. Ford 9 inch rearend with 4.11 gears and Detroit locker. Possable 3 link rear suspension. A killer 406 Chevy to go with those heads I have. 4 speed tranny.

Trials and Tribulations
The car has not been autocrossed yet. A few problems on the build. With the heads being angle milled I had problems with the intake not fitting quite right. the heads where done the correct way with the intake face also being machined but I just needed thicker intake gaskets to make it work. I also had a problem with the valve springs. They are 1.55 diameter and hit the rockers arms. I tried 2 sets of rockers and didn't solve the problen so in went smaller springs. Hopefull date of first autocross is August 28 2005. I might end up waiting for the 2006 season. Things are going awfully slow.

Sept 23 2005:
Getting very close, I know the engine runs but still working on the exhaust so I can test the trans. Big ? mark. Probably no race this year. The Engine sounds very healthy so I am pretty happy that my lowbuck rebuild actually works. When I changed thje springs I noticed that the heads need a valve job and also found out that my rockers would have worked with the big springs, oh well, the smaller springs are installed.
