Webster's defines JAZZ as an "American Music developed especially from ragtime and blues and characterized by propulsive syncopated rhythms, polyphonic ensemble playing, varying degrees of improvisation, and often deliberate distortions of pitch and timbre."

But in order to really understand it you kind of just have to experience GOOD JAZZ for yourself.  So what I've tried to do here is put together a list of some good pieces of JAZZ that you might enjoy and which might just get you hooked.
My Personal Top 10 Favorite JAZZ Pieces:

10. Harry Connick Jr. - Just Kiss Me
9.  Wyton Marsalis Septet - Pedro's Getaway
8.  Benny Goodman - Sing, Sing, Sing (With A Swing)
7.  Duke Ellington - Take the 'A' Train
6.  Charles Mingus Quintet - Hatian Fight Song
5.  Tony Bennett - I Wanna Be Around
4.  John Coltrane Sextet - Blue Train

Just let me just say that this is not an all inclusive list.  I'm leaving out tons of incredibly talented musicians and band leaders.  This list is basically just meant to get you thinking about JAZZ and hoepfully listening to it.  If you like what you hear please feel free to email me and ask me for some more.  I love JAZZ and love introducing people to it!
