| On Sunday, May 11, 2003, Jorge Navas and Rita Robles were married at the North Reformed Church, in Newark, NJ. Although there were predictions of rain and thunderstorms, the day started out pretty nice and the weather actually held up throughout the ceremony and for sometime afterwards. As many of you know, my oldest brother Diego was Jorge's best man. In addition to myself, Rita's brother Roy and cousin Edwin participated as groomsmen. We were at the church and ready to go by 12:45 PM, even though we were aware that the indicated starting time on the invitations was not correct. In an effort to make sure everyone got to the church on time, Rita and Jorge put 1:00 PM on the invites, but actually intended for the wedding to start at 1:30 PM. In spite of the extra time, the bridal party was a bit late in showing up to the church. I'd say that my brother Jorge was a little nervous, but we had a few drinks beforehand so I'm not sure how coherent he actually was at this time. Hmm, wonder if that invalidates the legality of the proceedings...if only we had a lawyer in the family (the joke being that we now have 2, which makes for some interesting discussions around the dinner table -like anyone else knows what a 'tort' is?). But back to our story. The wedding went off without a hitch and because the weather started to kick-in by this time, pictures were taken inside the church and from there it was on to Nanina's In The Park for the reception. Without saying too much about the reception I'd like to point out the extra generous applause that my sister Veronica and I received as we were introduced with the rest of the wedding party. If you weren't there, as we were walking across the dancefloor to join the other couples, I twirled Veronica once, in-stride, and then we proceeded to the staging area.
