The bald eagle is the bigest bird of prey in Canada. He belongs to the group of eagles which counts 59 species around the world. He is one of two species of eagles in North America joining his cousin: The royal eagle. His scientific name is Haliaeetus Leucocphalus.Haliaeetus means: Bird of the sea; Leucocephalus means his white head. Since the arrival of the europeans in north america, its population has greatly diminished. It is still commun enough in the west and in Alasaka. Some populations in Canada (by example: those from southern Ontario and New-Brunswick) and the 48 American states are menaced by instiction or are allready instict.

Food sources : Carnivore, he eats fish, ducks and small mamals.
Reproduction : The mating and the growth are during the month of march to may starting at the ade of 4 years. The couple incubates 1 to 3 eggs during 35 days. The first flight of the small chicks will happen 72 to 75 days latter
Longevity : In nature up to 20 years. In captivity up to 48 years.
Predators : The bald eagle dosent have a real natural predator.
Status : Not in danger of disparition
