Topics covered include: preparing to plan; reviewing history, mission, vision & values; identifying & prioritizing strategic issues; defining strategic goals & strategic objectives; implementation and monitoring. Exercises provide participants with experience in defining strategic issues and developing strategic goals and objectives for their organization. (half-day workshop)
- "Business Planning for Community Development Organizations"
This workshop covers the steps to create a Business Plan for your organization. Topics covered include: what is a business plan, the components of a business plan, how to prepare a business plan, and how to use a business plan. Exercises provide participants insights into the business planning needs of their organization. (half-day workshop)
- "Effective Boards: Governing for Results"
This workshop covers the basic roles and responsibilities of the non-profit community development Board of Directors. Topics covered include: what is a board, roles & responsibilities, and basic board operations. Participants are provided with materials and exercises to assist them in fulfilling their roles as board members. (2-hour workshop)
- "Board Operations: Bringing Out the Best in Your Board"
This workshop is designed to improve the efficency and effectiveness of non-profit community development boards. During the session, participants review common pitfalls for most Boards and potential solutions. Topics covered include: meetings, committees, board/staff interaction, and financial oversight. Participants are asked to share their board's best practices with others during the session. (2-hour workshop).
- "From Inspiration to Implementation - Starting a Faith-Based Community Development Organization"
This workshop is designed to assist participants in gaining a better understanding of the process involved in planning and establishing a Faith-Based non-profit community development organization. Participants review the "7-stages" of a start-up organization. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to determine whether creating an organization is their best option. (90 minute workshop)
- "The Planning Pyramid - Planning Tools for your Community and your Organization"
This introductory workshop provides participants with an overview of the various plans used at each point of the community development process. The workshop covers both community plans and organizational plans. Participants will gain a better understanding of the inter-relationship between the various types of plans, the content of each type of plan, and the process for creating each plan. (90 minute workshop)
