| Dafen Vs. Pwll Report | ||||
| Saturday, 19th of April saw the first game of the cricket season for both Pwll and Dafen. After a scorcher of a week players of both sides were hoping for another fine day, but unfortunately the cold weather came in and the long sleeve jumpers were out of the closet. As the game at Dafen Park was played on the artificical wicket , the toss didnt really matter to both sides, but after no hesitation Dafen skipper Wayne Powell chose to bat first. After a Promising start by the openers Chris Rowlands and Chris Hudson they looked towards a decent total on a very uneven Artificial. The team were eventually bowled out 185 with veteran Wyn Lloyd top scoring with a blistering 60 abily supported by Matthew Evans who scored 33. The pick of the bowlers for Pwll were ex Felinfoel pro Atif Hameed who returned with figures of 8-1-24-3 and youngster Darren Bonnell with figures of 3-0-7-3. Pwll were very confident about getting this total of 185 against the division 1 side. Pwll's team were amongst 6 ex dafen players. Pwll opened with two of them with new siging Jeremy Dawes and David Williams. Pwll got off to a flier with Dawes and Williams punishing the Dafen openers to pieces with 74-0 after just 5 overs. Dafen opened the attack with ex llangennech fast bowler Ryan Whiley but after going for 62 runs in 3 overs bowling 36 no-balls the Dafen players heads dropped off their shoulders. After losing quick wickets pwll stuttered a bit with 14 year old Liam Kenna claiming his first 3 victims for Dafen seniors with figures of 5-1-16-3 but Neil Davies polished the game off with 19.5 overs to spare getting 188-5. David Williams top scored with 72 with 6 sixes and new signing Jeremy Dawes scoring a flamboyant 46 were the pick of the batsmen. This win for pwll wasnt just a good one for veating a division one side but also the fact that they had 5 1st team players out. If Pwll show the commitment they had against Dafen they will have a real chance of claiming promotion to division 3 next season and as for dafen they were a bit out of sorts against Pwll but that was the first of many games to come this season and they can look towards their next game. Pwll's next game will be played at Pwll against Felinfoel wickets pitched at 2:00.
