AN INTERVIEW WITH PAUL "THE BUTCHER" VACHON

When did you start your pro wrestling career?
In 1955. I was 17 years old.

What made you want to become a professional wrestler?
My brother Maurice (Mad Dog) had already turned Pro and I wanted to travel, not get stuck on the farm or as a lumber jack.  Eventually I traveled to 33 countries on 5 continents and had over 6,000 pro matches in my 32 career.

What was your most memorable moment in your career?
Winning the AWA tag team championship with Mad Dog.  We defeated Dick The Bruiser and Crusher (Reggie Lizowski) in their home arena - Commiski Park Chicago.

Who was your biggest rival (or rivals)?
Andr'e The Giant


Who was probably your toughest opponent?
Andr'e The Giant

You come from a big wrestling family, including Mad Dog ,  Luna Vachon. Did the Vachons ever have a family feud with any of the other great wrestling families, like the Von Erichs or the Valiants?

What would you say was your  biggest achievement in your wrestling career?
I wrestled The Great King Kong in Karachi Pakistan to a crowd of over 100,000.  (The biggest draw for wrestling in its time)

How would you have best described your wrestling style?
Classic heal brawler with a sound technical background and strong emphasis on entertaining the fans.

What kind of advice could you give to up and coming wrestlers?
Watch the Wrestling tapes of the 1950's and 60's and DON'T quit your day job!!
