Wanna Hold the Record Week 9: Last year at this time, Wisconsin was on a similar tear through the league as the Chicago Cubsbartmen have been in 2004. The Wannabes went eight straight wins and held the record until now. Chicago tied the record last week with their win over Atlanta. In week nine, the Bartmen tried to break Wisconsin's record against them. Like the '84 Chicago Bears playing the Miami Dolphins, Chicago came up short in a 222-263 loss. During the whole week, Wisconsin and Chicago traded blows to keep the game close, never having more than 35 points separating the two. With less than a 20-point lead to hold on to, Wisconsin looked stop the Cubsbartmen's fantasy freight train on Sunday night. The Wannabes got it done with their pitching, from which they built their team around. Maddux had a great night Sunday, although Penny tried to blow the game for them. Chicago tried to stay in it, but not even three HR's off their bats could stop JD Drew. Drew, recently acquired in a trade with Atlanta, cranked a three-run homer off Chicago closer Biddle to seal the deal to give the Cubsbartmen their first loss in franchise history. An excited Sue, owner of the Wannabes, held a press conference Sunday night after the game. "We came out to win this game, to stop my bro's undefeated streak. I introduced him to this league and I needed to show him who's the boss around here. Maddux did wonders for us tonight. He definitely earned his high draft dollars." When asked if this gave them a shot to rebound and still win the Venus she responded, "I don't think we really have a shot at it. Little Willa seems to have a firm grasp of things here and just keeps pounding us ladies. We're looking to string a couple wins together and get back into a position to earn one of the three wild card spots in the second half of the season."The Chicago Poofle Times reported that Cubsbartmen owner Jason wasn't phased by the loss at all. They reported that he quote, "let her win. The results of beating his sister-in-law while she was already down would have cost him a happy bedroom, and Jason was not going to put that situation in jeopardy." There was no comment about the Times article, however spokesmen in the Chicago organization confirmed the rumors were circulating in the office. A similar situation does not, however, present itself when Chicago travels to Kalamazoo to face the defending champion, Michigan Twinkies. Look for the Cubsbartmen to rebound in a big way as they try to prove that the week nine's loss to Wisconsin was in fact a gift. Wisconsin hosts Cranville in what should be an interesting game.
Hummels Wharf 289, Seattle 263
Hummels Wharf crept to the top of the season point standings. With Prior back, they seem even more dangerous than they have been in the previous half of the season. Division leaders collide as Rocko is next on the plate for the Braves to hunt. Seattle, a bit shaken from their loss tries to rebound against the puzzling Providence Plague.
Guam 218, Providence 171
"We can't be giving out false information to our managers. The Sunday morning scores affect strategies entering into the final day of a match. Once we find out the error, the person responsible will be properly punished, possibly canned."The Plague will have a tough match ahead of them in the Seattle Skunks. Guam will start their Division home stand next week, hosting recently rejuvenated Miami Hustlers.
Michigan 280, Rocko 211
Rocko has been struggling with the teams in PWFBL that are not in the Venus, or from Georgia. The Leopards have another test on their hands as they try to break the trend against point leader Hummels Wharf.
Atlanta 255, Cranville 171
The Euchres look back to their division for inspiration. Cranville plays Wisconsin in what should be a must win game for the Euchres' confidence. Atlanta needs to be cautious not to overlook their week 10 opponent, Dundee Hillbillies, while looking ahead to their week 11 rematch with Pluto Division foe Guam.
Miami 231, Dundee 184
