8-1
The Wisconsin Wannabes suffered their first loss of the PWFBL season in Week 9...at the hands of an unlikely winner. The Hummels Wharf Braves broke out of a five-week slump to score 312 points to Wisconsin's 278. 'Bees owner Sue Conn was missing in action for the first few days of the week on a camping trip, but when she returned to the field Friday, things fell apart.
Tom Glavine was shelled in his lone appearance of the week while the Wannabes' lineup looked shell-shocked, leading to a score of -4. The Braves, meanwhile, saw Wade Miller start to regain last year's form, going the distance behind three hits from Chipper Jones. Hummels Wharf, not known for having strong weekends, got help from fellow struggling starter Roy Oswalt to close out the win.
"Our pitching staff is really starting to come together," Braves CEO Bob Pinter told reporters. "Ever since we picked up Keith (Foulke) and Billy (Koch) we're guaranteed some points almost every day."
Despite the smiles in Hummels Wharf, the Braves were eclipsed by Michigan in the points department. The Twinkies put up 350 against Rocko and currently hold a two-game lead over the Braves in the Mars Division. They'll look to beat up on another hapless team, the Seattle Skunks, in Week 10. Seattle lost to Providence, who will try to make it three wins in a row against the Braves. Wisconsin looks to right its own ship against Rocko this week.
