Braves' Owner Not Terminal, But Team Might Be
Week 7 in the PWFBL was the same old story, of love and glory...or lack thereof.
Wisconsin got most of the latter, easily trouncing the Providence Plague while scoring an even 368 points, the most by any team in a single week. The Plague seem to be suffering from something, having lost three in a row following a convincing win over Seattle.
Their matchup in Week 8 is full of all sorts of cruel twists when they take on the Hummels Wharf Braves. The Braves are in a mid-season slump of their own, having dropped their last four. The latest loss came at the hands of the Rocko Leopards, who have managed to string two wins together behind the new-found homerun power of Richie Sexson and Jim Thome.
Incidentally, the Plague were the Braves' last victim before their latest slide. Adding insult to injury, CEO Bob Pinter was sidelined with what doctors are now calling an extreme case of gastroenteritis over the weekend. Ironically, Pinter fell ill on a weekend trip to Hummels Wharf, where he was scheduled to take questions from fans about the recent performance of the team. Instead, Dr. Gaines Richardson of New Glarus, Wisconsin, told reporters Monday night, "Mr. Pinter is resting comfortably and is starting to get back on his feet again. He has been advised to refrain from too much activity surrounding the team, as that could re-aggravate his symptoms."
Pinter failed to clear ace Mike Mussina for a start Sunday, forcing him to sit out the weekend.
Rocko, meanwhile, tries to continue its winning ways against Seattle. The Skunks helped pad Michigan's lead in the Mars Division by posting their sixth loss of the year. The Twinkies are the only team in Mars with a record above .500.
