How Sweet It Is

They say Twinkies never expire. And in Week 6, when it mattered most, a batch of Twinkies from Michigan outlasted a struggling cast of ballplayers from Pennsylvania to move into first place in the Mars Division. The Twinkies, who opened the season by dropping their first two games--including a loss to Hummels Wharf in Week 2--have ripped off four straight, including a three-point nail-biter over the Braves to take over the male-dominated division.

Bad pitching once again did the Braves in, as Wade Miller got shellaced again Saturday. Roy Halladay countered for Michigan with a win to seal the victory, despite three Hummels Wharf saves and two home runs from Adam Dunn Sunday to keep it close.

The Braves will try to pick up their first win in four tries this week as they take on the resurgent Rocko Leopards. Rocko nearly broke the 300-point mark last week behind Jim Thome's four home runs to breeze past Providence.

The Plague find themselves in deep trouble this week as they ride a two-game losing streak into Wisconsin to take on the Wannabes. Wisconsin continues its hot streak as the only undefeated team in the PWFBL with a Week 6 win over Seattle.

Was It a Fluke?

Seattle put up big numbers in week 5 to get their first Win of the season but faltered to the streaking Wannabes in week 6. The Skunks dug themselves into a 50 point hole after Monday's poor showing and just never recovered. The Wannabes posted win #6 and continue to change staff frequently.

The Rocko Leopards continued their up and down season with a high game this week defeating The Provident Plague. Both teams have the capacity to be put up big numbers each week but the performance so far has been rocky.

In the game of the week, and battle for the Mars division - Michigan got a big win downing the Braves, who have fallen apart since playing the Wannabes in Week 4. Despite a poor performance and firing of Andy Petitte, the Twinkies managed to squeak by the Braves and move into the top spot in the mens division. Owner/GM Puck dismissed Petitte saying only that he wasn't going to allow poor performance to keep him from winning big games and making the playoffs. When asked for comment, Owner Bob of Hummels Wharf said "You know, we tried to keep it close all week...but Michigan just came in and kicked our s on the last day...it gets harder and harder to lose these close ones...you reporters don't seem to understand that...it's not like we're not trying hard, we just get our handed to us every weekend."

The Week Ahead -

Hummels Wharf looks to rebound from their 3 game losing streak to score a win over the Rocko Leopards. The Leopards look to win again and hope the year is swinging positively for them now.

In a division rivalry game, the Seattle Skunks look to cool down the Michigan Twinkies hot streak. Michigan looks to maintain a solid lead in the Mars division as the season is rapidly aproaching the half-way point.

In another division rivalry game, Providence looks to halt the winning ways of Wisconsin. The Plague lost the first meeting and since then has cursed other teams in the league. The Wannabes are looking to just keep putting up points and scoring wins.
