Tree Smashes Car in Schreiber Lot

Port Washington, N.Y.- On Friday October 4th, a tree fell on a silver Audi car parked in the Schreiber High School teachers parking lot. The car was identified as belonging to Mrs. Leone, a Computer Assistant at Schreiber.
On a day with no apparent wind, the tree toppled onto spot number 315 at approximately 1:18 p.m. Mrs. Hennessy was the only witness to the incident and immediately sought out Mrs. Leone who was assisting Mrs. Gokturk’s Journalism class in room 123. At that time Mrs. Leone hurried out of the room to check on the status of her car. Mrs. Hennessy claimed that the car was "completely smashed."
Mrs. Leone reported that her car was the only on damaged in the incident and that Head Custodian Dave Alberry had taken charge. Mr. Alberry contacted the police immediately who then responded to the scene.
Dr. Banta, the Principle at Schreiber High School was also in room 123 at the time of the incident. Upon hearing word what had transpired he said, "I was immediately concerned if and students were injured. I had to know if we needed to call an ambulance. I was reminded of the storm a few weeks ago in New Jersey when a tree branch fell injuring a few students. I became very concerned."
Even more puzzling to students and faculty was the fact that there was practically no wind at the time of the incident. The cause is still unknown, however, authorities are looking into the issue.
