LAKE RIDGE SPEECH STUDENTS CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN!
1. Lots of children who have difficulties with language lack the understanding of putting things in a correct order. This idea of "sequencing" is very important when it comes to academic success as well as classroom routines and behavior. Work on your child's ability to sequence by doing the following activities:

* Have your student tell you their morning/nightime routine. Are they putting everything in the right order? Do they understand which acitvities come first, next, and last? Can they use transition words in their description? Have them draw pictures of their routines (a picture of brushing teeth, of eating breakfast, etc.) and cut the pictures out. Re-arrange them in silly ways and see if they can sequence them in the correct order.

* What happens on Halloween!? Holidays are a great time to work on language. Make a list of all the vocabulary you might need to talk about Halloween and write the words out for children to see. You can call it your "Halloween word wall!" They can draw a picture next to each word to make them more colorful and interesting. Hang your word wall up and try to have your child make one or two sentences each night with a different Halloween word. Do they understand sentence structure?

2. Take out that candy and work those mouths on articulation instead! Ask you child to find ten words with their sound that have to do with Halloween.Practice these words until Halloween and see how much progress you can make!
