| July 11th, 2007 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - The Wachovia Center Qualifying matches for the 2007 PWA Tournament of Torture kicked off this week on Fusion. In action, former PWA Heavyweight Champion, Carlito the Cool battled John Cena, CM Punk returned to face Johnny Nitro, Scott Hall looked to have the same luck his partner did last week against The Rock, Y2J faced off against Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle, and in the main event, Stone Cold Steve Austin went one on one with Triple H; all qualifying matches for the Tournament of Torture! In the opening bout, John Cena looked for a second straight victory against former champ, Carlito, however, Carlito's clever antics would pay off in the end. Carlito would attempt to use a chair on Cena, but the referee would interefere. As Charles Robinson removed the chair from the ring, Carlito used Cena's own chain against him. Carlito then attained the pin fall victory and thus advanced to the Tournament of Torture pay per view on July 29th. Another superstar made his return to the PWA this week as well. CM Punk against Johnny Nitro in what was considered match of the night. After back and forth action, CM Punk was able to put Nitro away with the GTS (Go To Sleep) and secure the win. He now joins long time rival, Carlito in the Tournament of Torture. The third qualifying match included one half of the Outsiders, Scott Hall and the Brahma Bull The Rock. Last week, Hall's partner Nash stole a victory over the Great One and this week, Hall made it 2 - 0 for the Outsiders. While Hall distracted the referee, Big Sexy leveled Rock with a monsterous big boot, followed by a Jacknife Powerbomb in the center of the ring. Finally, Nash left the scene and Hall finished him off with the Outsider's Edge for the easy win. Kurt Angle became the fourth man to qualify for the Tournament of Torture with a win over Chris Jericho. After hitting a running bulldog, Jericho went for his patented Lion Sault, but unfortunately, Angle was able to get the knees up. Kurt quicky dashed to his feet, applied the Ankle Lock and forced the very first ever Tournament of Torture Winner in to submission. In the main event, Stone Cold Steve Austin faced off against the King of Kings Triple H. Austin, already on a roll from last week's win over Shawn Michaels, looked to get another win and advance to the Tournament of Torture, but his task wasn't easy by any means. At one point, the Texas Rattlesnake seemed to have had the win in the bag after a Stone Cold Stunner, but at the last split second Ric Flair would pull the referee out of the ring. An irate Austin chased Flair around the squared circle where he was met with a blinding clothesline from the Game. Triple H rolled Austin in the ring and begin to set up for the Pedigree, but Austin instead flipped Triple H over his shoulder. In an act of desperation, the Nature Boy handed Triple H a sledge hammer which he attempted to use, but unsuccessfully. Austin ducked the shot from Triple H and kicked him in the gut causing him to release the weapon. Suddenly, in the heat of the moment, the Texas Rattlesnake blasted Triple H in the skull with the sledge hammer. The bell sounded and instantly the Wachovia Center erupted in boos, already knowing the outcome of the match; the winner as a result of a disqualification, Triple H. While Triple H's hand was raised in victory, Austin would make sure he got the final word with one last Stunner in the center of the ring and to top it off, he delivered one to the Nature Boy as well and celebrated with a ritual beer bash. As of now, already in the Tournament of Torture: Triple H, Kurt Angle, Scott Hall, CM Punk, and Carlito the Cool. Who will qualify next week when Fusion emanates from the Conseco Field House in Indianapolis, Indiana? |
