Well, the Pacific Wrestling Association is by now a distant memory as I sit at my monitor for one last time looking at an e-fed. This last, and final, Mark is going to be completely about my memories of the Pacific Wrestling Association... and probably some explanations of some my choices for some of the controversial winners in matches and all of my thoughts on some of the OOC wars and some secrets that some of you may have known but others were completely in the dark about. I've decided to try and split this into two separate sections... the first of which is right below this and is basically a chronology of the more important events in PWA history that I can remember and the second are just my thoughts and favorite memories of the PWA which are quite a ways down the page. So, if you don't care about the chronology then just click here to be taken to my memories ramblings. Anyway, I'll start from the beginning and how the PWA came to be. It all started around the end of December in 2000 when me and Alan were discussing Pay Per View names for the IWF and one of us brought up the idea of a minor league. We even went so far as to come up with a name for it, SECtor. What the "SEC" stood for I can't remember but all I know was that those plans never got off the ground. Come January I had redesigned the IWF site and there was too much talent for Alan to handle in the IWF so without letting Al know I created and designed the original PWA site and slapped the minor league moniker on it then I let Al in on my plans. Needless to say Al agreed to it and the IWF had it's very first minor league... which also ensured that the IWF would be around for some time to come. That was how the PWA came to be, pretty simple eh? I remember when me and Al were discussing who the first people to be assigned to the PWA would be and he was adament that I take Ray Blaze aka Matt Machinsky from him so I agreed to take this soon-to-become IWF/PWA whipping boy having never really had him cross me. Anyway, I had him touted as the first PacInt Champion until the second-soon-to-become IWF/PWA whipping boy Beholder came along and easily outroleplayed anyone we had at that time. So, I put the PacInt Championship on the Beholder and with the talent (or lack thereof) in the fed at the time he became virtually unbeatable which eventually spurned a monster who was unleashed in the IWF and quickly got himself into OOC trouble and then fired (Later on, he tried to get back into the PWA as Tyger so I gave him the "Garbage Can Treatment" on the June 4 edition of Shock - or so it has become known between myself and Al). Alright, so I wandered off topic but I felt that was as good a place as any to write about the first ever Pacific International Champion. The second PacInt Champion was Ray Blaze... and he won the title kind of in a transition period as he dropped it less than a week later to to greatest PacInt Champion in the history of the PWA. Now, some of oyu are probably saying that that match was probably a cakewalk for Rude Boy to beat Ray Blaze but the actual fact behind that match was that loss was a punishment to Matt Machinsky for publicly berating the match results instead of taking them up privately with myself. I remember writing the match itself and thinking that (at that time) the two were likely tied in the quality of their roleplays and if I would have had to choose winner it still would have been Rude Boy just because he had come into the PWA with a fresh gimmick that no one had ever seen before and Ray Blaze was pretty stale (after this match I tried to add an edge to the Ray Blaze character and I worked closely with Matt to try to get him up to the level that Rude Boy blasted off to after that win but it was damn near impossible). Anyway, so Rude Boy beat Blaze for the title and the PWA basically set into cruise control as no one could touch Rude Boy but he didn't want to go up to the IWF until he lost the PacInt. So, after awhile Al and I talked and I decided that Rude Boy would just have to forfeit the title because it wouldn't have been fair to have him lose it. This actually worked out good for storyline purposes because at this time I was trying to pass the PWA on to Drew Melnick and Andrew Fong (aka the Sharpe Brothers) and this way they could hand pick their own "first" champion to represent their era in the PWA (it became Hugh Jorgan, with my heavy influence though). In theory, I was supposed to leave the PWA at the same Rude Boy (Scott) did but after a I was gone a couple of weeks... the site updates and quality of the PWA experience began to lack what it had while I was here and I didn't want the PWA to slump (no offense meant to you Drew). So, I came back as the "Image Designer" and tried to help out Drew Melnick as much as I could to "tutor" him on how the run the PWA but we weren't getting anywhere and eventually he had other commitments to attend which was when Andrew Fong became the the main guy. If you ask Andrew he'll probably be the first to tell you that he doesn't really know too much about HTML but I tried to teach him a little until I pretty much said "screw it" and decided to let him write the results and I'd write the Fillers (which basically allowed me to control storylines) and do the updates any other HTML related things. I think that was pretty close to the end of July. Well, I don't really know where to go from here so I think I'll bring up the taboo subject that hasn't been mentioned in the IWF/PWA in the longest time and that is the.... AWA! Yes, Matt Machinksky's quickly failed brain child with the original idea of being anti-PWA. Now, I do give credit where credit due and this quite an original (but unbelievably stupid) idea on his part. At the time I was a extremely ticked at him because he was bashing everything that I stood for and worked so hard on but once reality set in and I realized the AWA was going to fail anyway I began to laugh about it. The AWA was a sinking ship from the beginning because history has dictated that feds that were opened with the idea of putting another one out of business have usually failed. Our good friends in the WCWF saw this, and I respect them more now than I did before (mainly because I'd never heard of them before this AWA fiasco). The WCWF quickly dropped the AWA realizing that they were better of without it. Well, long story short the AWA failed miserably and ironically enough for a time there at the beginning of August I had changed some of the PWA site/boards/e-mail passwords to "awafailed" With the AWA completely dead the PWA was having problems with keeping the roster bolstered with enough talent to keep cards going. This about the time I became even more influential in the storylines of fed as Andrew was suffering from burn out and lack of drive to write the results but still remained on as president. Anyway, at this time we didn't have much top-end talent other than Iceberg and K-9 who departed for the IWF. Hugh Jorgan became the PacInt Champion again for the second time but then went MIA and he hasn't been seen since. Anyway, at this time the PWA was down to about 10 wrestler... 3 of which were active and roleplaying more than once a week. Regardless of the talent we had Andrew and I still kept putting out cards but just focused them more on storylines rather than on the three lacklustre matches that we had on them. Seeing as how we didn't have much top end talent I took it upon myself to try and get the quality back up and motivated myself enough to begin roleplaying again with three purposes in mind. The first was to come in as an ass OOC to see where some of the IWF stood in regards to the PWA, the second was to give some of the top-end guys a run for their money, and the third was to try to make Iceberg a great roleplayer by introducing some innovative ideas against him and helping along OOC. Well, for those of you that have been waiting for this day for sooo long... yes, I was "Tyler Compton" aka The Ego. The name The Ego wasn't a coincidence either. Like I said in the above paragraph I intended to come in as an ass OOC to see where some of the IWF guys stood in regards to how they felt about the PWA and it's talent and a big ego was the way to go. You might be questioning my motivation for this but it made (and still makes) perfect sense in my head. At the time absolutely no one knew who Tyler Compton was until The Ego posted something on the AWA OOC Board which was when Alan discovered who I was and for the longest time only he knew... not even Andrew Fong knew and we were working together on the results. After awhile Drew Melnick found out and then about the middle of our feud Mark (Iceberg) figured it out and I confirmed his suspicions and we worked even more closely on trying to get him to be a better RPer (quality wise). Around the time Andrew and I had The Ego win the PacInt I revealed to him that I was actually Tyler Compton/The Ego and at that time he was shocked that I could could keep it from so many people for so long (or at least that is how I remember, I think). I was also alost completely positive that Tim Longley suspected that The Ego was me but I never talked to him so I never confirm his suspicions... until now. Anyway, The Ego experiment worked pretty well as I found out that the bond between IWF/PWA wrestlers was indeed closer than I thought. Da MAB, Dan Noble, and Iceberg were all given a challenge by my Ego and I also bought Da MAB a little more time to develop his character and work on his quality a little more to get him up to a main event calibre level which was an added bonus (more on Da MAB later on). And, after our feud I honestly feel that Mark was as close to his best quality that he had ever produced including our time together in NaWa where I feuded against him as The Dreamon in the summer of 2000. Anyway, the Tyler Compton character added another dimension to the PWA results which (I feel) made them more entertaining than they had been with only Sid Sharpe running things. Alright enough of my huge, massive, enormous, gigantic Ego :). And on to the final days of the PWA. Well, after The Ego and Iceberg had their feud the applications began flowing into the PWA and I was receiving about 5 or 6 a week. Coincidentally, around this time Andrew Fong finally decided that he had to part ways with the PWA and focus on school so I took over complete control and kept Sid Sharpe on as a character but I didn't announce Andrew's leaving for a couple of weeks until he was out the door already. Anyway, with the PWA roster bolstered with the additions of False Wind, Miami Missile, and others the PWA was once again a thriving minor league fed. In the weeks leading up to All Hallow's Hoax I was depending heavilyon match writers to write matches as attending university and being the sole president was taking it's toll on me. I pushed on through the month of October and had the AHH card set a couple of weeks before it was set to go down which was also when I distributed matches to my card writers and informed of what and how they were supposed to write the match. Well, once October 30 came around I only had 1 complete match and two others that weren't written in PWA style and I had to adapt/add/change them around to make them fit into the results which took up to an hour for each. Anyway, I ended up writing almost the entire AHH card even after I had gone to great lengths to get the card out early and get the match writers their matches at least a week before the event. This was the straw that broke the camels back and I immediately began to talk with Alan about finding a group of people who would be completely able to take over the PWA. He then brought it to my attention that no one would be able to live up to the lofty expectations that go with running the PWA so we agreed to set up a new minor league site and find a new president to run it. That new minor league fed has come to be known as FORCE or the Force Wrestling Institution (FWI). Well, those are the important events in the chronology of the PWA and how everything came to be and went down. And, now I'm just going to throw in my random memories and thoughts on the PWA. |
