Pontiac Secondary Branch
Physical Conditions:
Ballast: Primarily gravel, some mixed crushed stone
Clearance: Minimum vertical 18.3'
Culverts: N/A
Drainage: Fair
Overhead Bridges: 2 Highway
Surface: Good
Ties: Good
Track Bridges: Pocasset River bridge is in poor condition
Weight of Rail: 78#

Signalization: None

Grade crossings:
There are 10 public at-grade crossings over this line.

Unusual physical features/track and structure problems:
No signals exist except at the junction with the Shore Line.  Some of the existing grade crossings are in need of rehabilitation.  The track between the Shore Line and Howard is generally FRA Class II, while the track between Howard and Pontiac is below FRA Class I.  The Pocasset River bridge is in very poor condition, and is in need of reconstruction.

Industry served: This line provides the only rail access to the Howard Industrial Park, a major industrial complex which currently is nearly fully developed although additional acreage is planned.  Thus the importance of the line is far greater than merely preservation of service to the admittedly limited current users.  Also, this line could gain greater importance if the industrial facilities at Pontiac are re-developed.
