Instructional Program

The instructional, or intramural program, is to teach our youth, ages 7 & 8, the fundamentals of basketball.

This program is scheduled for 8-10 weeks (building in time for possible snow days), for 1 hour and 15 minutes each week on Saturdays at Pleasant Valley Elementary.

The program involves a head instructor (or instructors) and groups of 10 children lead by parent coaches. The instructor demonstrates fun drills for the players and the parent coaches take the players back to their area to practice the drills. After some basic drills are learned, the teams will then play against each other, using the skills they learned in the drills.
Scrimmages are typically played 4V4, rather than 5V5, to allow players to have more time handling the ball in order to get a better grasp of the game.

This program begins on January 10, 2009. The cost is $35 per player. The program concludes with a medal ceremony for all the children. 7 year olds will play from 9- 10:15 am and 8 year olds will play from 10:30- noon. A postcard will be sent to all participants in December as a reminder of the start of the program. A schedule, including coach contact information,  will be given to parents on the second day of session.

Parent coaches will be given rosters and contact information for the children on their team. In case of cancellations due to inclement weather, head instructors will contact parent coaches who will contact players.

This is a FUN program for our youth to learn the game of basketball while remaining physically active during the winter months.

The Head Instructors for the 2009 Season will be Charlie Conklin and John Stanovick.

All parents interested in coaching their child's team should sign up at either of the registration dates.
