PVYA Basketball competes in a travel program with the Forks Community Basketball League.
Our organization has competed in this league since the program was run by the Western Pocono Jaycees and they made the decision to go from intramural to competitive.
Boys and girls are placed on gender and age appropriate teams and compete against the same through various school and youth organizations through out the Lehigh Valley, and parts of Phillipsburg, NJ.
Practices are held at the high school, middle school, PVE and PVI. Practices are held from 6-7:30 PM and from 7:30-9 PM. Each team has approximately 2 practices per week. Coaches are given a practice schedule on a monthly basis at the monthly coaches meeting.
Typically there are 6 home games and 6 away games per season. As much as we try to get that with every team, there might be teams who play 5 or 7 home games. We do our best! All home games are played on the weekends at either the high school old gym, the middle school, PVI or PVE. As we have no control over gym time of other organizations, away games could be played during any night of the week or weekends.
This program allows our players to build their basketball skills while playing in a true competitive league. Many of our players go on to play on the PV high school teams and at the college level.
Players in our program who choose not to try out for the school teams can continue in this program through the age of 15.
Levels for both boys and girls are U10, U11, U12, U13 and U15.
PVYA places as many teams per division as we have players who sign up. We may have 2 team in the U15 division and 4 teams in the U11 division.
It is the goal of this organization to allow as many players as possible to enjoy learning the game of basketball, compete in the game of basketball and make basketball a lifelong sport. It is our hope that in years to come, previous PVYA players will return as coaches to this organization and any youth basketball organization where they might reside.
