Steidell, Harmon, Home: Baltimore, Md, AAE: n/a, Rnk: Pvt., DLE: 15 July 1861 Unknown, Mustered Out, DLD: 01 August 1862 Harrison's Landing Va., Other Info: In researching my great grandfather, Herman Steidel, I discovered that Conrad Muhl, of Baltimore, was in the Michigan 2nd Infantry band from 1861 to August 1862.He was promoted to Full Principle Musician. Several other band members were from Baltimore German immigrant community as well. These band members were apparently recruited along the way near DC in July 1861.They were mustered out when the Feds stopped paying for infantry bands. Does anyone know whether Conrad Muhl was from Baden? And if so, which town.If he palyed in an orchestra? Chuck Steidel" Second Post: Conrad Muhl, b. 1823, was from Hesse Darmstadt. I am very interested in the information you have about Conrad Muhl.June Third Post: The only information I have is that my great grandfather,Hermann Steidel(from Heidelberg,Baden,b1830)and Conrad Muhl were in the 2nd Michigan Infantry band together. They joined up as the Michigan infantry passed by Baltimore I presume. Conrad Muhl was listed as a principle musician in Ancestry.com record. My greatgrandfather came to the US about 1851 as a 21 year old musician from a musical family. He eventually became a hosse painter.I do not know if he knew Conrad Muhl before their enlistment about june ,1861. Sept. 3,2006

Hayden book Note 1 on June 28th 1861. He is mentioned as the first musician and an excellent singer. He got himself in trouble somehow and was released from arrest on November 19th 1861.
