131. Elizabeth Schmidt

NAME EMIGRANTS,REFUGEES,&PRISONERS,RICH DAVIS, PG 209

136. Daniel Stauffer

Daniel and his family were exiled in 1671 and were living with his father in December 1671 at Dirmstein, Germany and on 1 January 1672 at Ibersheim, Germany with his pregnant wife. By 1682 he had moved to Gerolsheim, Germany. He was listed as a Mennonite inhabitant of Gerolsheim in 1685 and 1698.

137. Barbara Galli

She was the daughter of Ulrich Galli, the leader of the farmers revolt.

144. Hans Jacob Strickler

He was living with his family at Hirzel in 1649, but he is not found in any records at Hirzel after 1649. He possibly left Hirzel with his brother Hans Heinrich in 1657. According to the Strickler bible which was in the possession of the Abraham Strickler family in Virginia in the 1770's, there was a date written in the front of the bible of "24 Jul 1636" with a name written in, but only the first letter of each name are legible. The letters were J____ S___ followed by geboren. The apparently refers to the birth date of Hans Jacob Striclker of Hirzel as the date matches the birth date of Hans Jacob in the church record. This would indicate that Hans Joacob Strickler is probably the father of the Mennonite Stricklers in Germany in the 1690s and grandfather of the Mennonite Stricklers in Pennsylvania in the 1720s. There is also a date of 10 _____ 1660 followed by initials "H. J. S." and "K. ?U." This may refer to the marriage of Hans Jacob but it can not be certain. He may have married a woman named Katherina or Kungold, the two most common female names in Switzerland which begin with a "K". Other dates in the bible are 1692, 1713 and 12 Sep 1732, but their meanings are unclear. The name Abraham Strickler is also written in the bible, but it is unknown at which point Abraham received the bible. Hans Jacob was probably the father of Hans, Hans Conrad and Jacob Strickler who were all Mennonites who left the Ibersheim congregation in the Pfalz in 1693 to seek refuge from the ware there for the safety of Friedrichstadt, Holstein, Germany near the border of the Netherlands. --RWD

148. Christian Rufner

He was called a taufer in the church register of Sigriswil, Bern, Switzerland. He was married to Madle Buhler. He first appears in the village of Sigriswil church records in 1671. He lived at Tschingel in Sigriswil.

152. Hans Stöckli

The Stockli family were anabaptists who were expelled from Switzerland in 1711/1712 because of their religious beliefs

234. Michael Meyer

a Mennonite of Reihan

240. Fridli Hersperger

He was arrested in 1678 and brought to Basel. He was steadfast in his faith. He was banished and went to live in Alsace. He married Margreth Hersperg, probably the daughter of Jacob Hersperg and Anna Buser of Laufelfingen. Fridli left the Basel area around 1680 for Ohnenheim, Alsace. His wife was reluctant but she later followed him to Ohnenheim. Some of his children also followed him.
