In February of 1952 with 20 charter members, The Pratt Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. was established. The fire department serves the towns of Pratt and Hansford, Paint Creek and approximately 23 miles of the West Virginia Turnpike responding to structure fires, vehicle fires, and auto accidents.
On December 22, 1973 the building that housed the fire department, police department, water works, and offices of the Womens club and Lions club, was destroyed by fire with and estimated cost of damages totaling $150,000. For approximately a year or so the fire department ran call out of a small metal out building in Chief Charles F. Veazey's back yard. Construction of the new facility began in 1974 and was completed in, 1975.
