Pajaro Valley Community Emergency Response Teams
"Do the most good for the most people."
C.E.R.T. volunteers are the first on the scene when emergency services are slowed by damaged or flooded streets, downed communciation and power lines and an overwhelming number of requests for help. C.E.R.T. basic training helps to save lives, preserve property and speed recovery throughout the community.
C.E.R.T. training consists of five classes and a practical exercise, including:
Visual Damage Assessment
Simple Search and Rescue
Disaster Medicine
Personal Safety
Evacuations
Fire Suppression and Utility Control
Home, Office and School Preparedness
C.E.R.T. training is based on the national F.E.M.A. model and is taught in English and Spanish to groups throughout the Pajaro Valley. C.E.R.T. is a cooperative community benefit program of the Watsonville Fire Department, Watsonville Police Department, Watsonville Community Hospital and Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County.
C.E.R.T. is funded in part by the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County and Watsonville Community Hospital. Instructional materials are provided by Pacific Gas & Electric and The Federal Emergency Management Agency.
