God's Christmas Gift

Do you want a gift for Christmas?
Tell me just what could it be?
Is it bigger than a breadbox?
Will it fit beneath your tree?

There's a gift that would be perfect.
And it will never get old.
It's a gift from God the Father,
Sweetest story ever told.

It came wrapped in a small package,
Placed inside a tiny barn,
And the angels herald its coming
Announcing that Christ was born.

Yes, God's Son was born on Christmas,
Fulfilling His promise true,
'Twas salvation He was sending,
Meant for me and meant for you.

We must look beyond the manger,
Fix our eyes on the Cross.
If he hadn't made the journey,
Then the whole world would be lost.

It's a gift that's free for taking
But it's worth much more than gold,
And I cannot help repeating
Sweetest story ever told.

If your tree is bright and shiny
Underneath it gifts galore.
I pray one contains Christ Jesus
Your password to heaven's shore.

As you gather with your family
Round the tree on Christmas Day,
Recall the reason for the season
And then bow your head and pray.

Thanking God for sending Jesus
To redeem the souls of men.
He's the gift above all others
And we thank you, God, for Him.

So I offer you this Christmas
The best gift the world has known
Merry Christmas and God Bless you
Till God calls His children home.

Merry Christmas 2000
