MY FAVORITE BOOKS
I bet you thought this would be boring Educational Texts and
Journals -- far from it !
Here's background. As a child I suffered from Rheumatic Fever which
required 8 weeks of bedrest. For a 6 year old in first grade this was the
optimum time for learning to read. My teacher, who was not as wise as I, in my opinion,
did not suggest to my parents the option of repeating first grade for this health reason.
Instead she suggested tutoring. This is what my parents did. So the summer was spent
having reading "jammed" down my throat resulting in a child who hated to read.
It was not until I had graduated from college that I picked up my first book to read
purely for enjoyment - "The Godfather". Therefore, my book choices are mystery;
with serial killers heading the list. Psychotic is best.
- SUE GRAFTON Kinsey Milhone to the rescue. This series of alphabet mysteries
are set in Santa Rosa, California. The gutsy Kinsey gets the job done. Easy reading
and fun. Start with A is for Alibi and go from there. She is up to O is for Outlaw.
- J A JANCE Started with her JP Beaumont series. A detective in Seattle solves the
crimes. She has a new series out set in Arizona, and her new character, a woman - of
course, gets you involved immediately. Start with Desert Heat. You will be hooked.
- SARA PARETSKY Another woman with a mission, V I Warshefsky. All of these
books are set in Chicago and accurate descriptions of the area are included in the plots.
If you saw the movie, do not be discouraged, it combined the first three books. Titles
include: Guardian Angel, Bloodshot, and more..........
- JAMES PATTERSON Kiss the Girls will have you checking your windows and doors.
You won't be able to put it down. Along Came a Spider had me so involved,
I wanted to help solve the murder. Hide and Seek just came out, I can't wait.
Children's authors I adore
-- Ezra Jack Keats: Snowy Day, Peter' Chair, Letter to Amy.......
-- Robert Munch: Fifty Below Zero, Thomas' Snowsuit, Paper Bag Princess .....
-- Roald Dahl: The Twits, Enormous Crocodile, Fantastic Mr. Fox .......
- - More to come - -
