AUSTRALIA DOWN UNDER
to the land of the midnight sun
where Putt and Puppet 7
hugged with Marianne
I left Adelaide in South Australia in the Winter of 2000. Flying from Sydney to Tokyo, over Russia. and on to London. then a plane to Oslo. It was with some trepidation that I was to spend two weeks with a family I had never met before,
I would like you to somehow share this experience with me by meeting these wonderful people who made me feel so welcome, So let me introduce Per Helge and Marianne Skrødahl who live on the quiet island of Hitra, situated on the west coast of Norway surrounded by many smaller islands. First I must tell you that I was met at the Oslo airport by Putt's and Mariann's eldest son Håvard and his friend Monica, soon we were travelling North, in bright sunshine for the ten hour road trip to Hitra, and hopefully for a warm, hug, Mariann I am sure invented hugs. Hitra is famous for having the deepest undersea tunnel in the world.reaching a depth of 267 metres, Taking cars and trucks from the mainland to the island, I was looking forward to driving through this tunnel.

Note the rocky land with grass trying its best to grow. with a grey overcast day so typical of Norway.
Did you notice the young couple above.?
We ate soused Anchovies, Smoked Salmon, Fish balls, Brown cheese. Wholemeal Bread and coffee
and that was all before lunch
