1) this helps create suspense because it keeps the reader waiting and wanting to know who he is and why he is going to die.
2) Everything in the mans mind is slowed down. He sees the rushing river only as a slow river. This slowed perception is important because the whole story is really about half the time and the story is told in his slow perception.
3) The narrorator’s attitude towards Farquhar seems to come off as if the narrator does not like him. B) The narrator’s attitude towards war comes off to be that he thinks war is bad and that war is death.
4) The ironic part of farquhar’s longing for life as a solider is an altered perception because he thinks that being a solider will bring him fame but in reality it brings death and that’s just what happens. B) The comment “all is fair in love and war” is ironic because its not its exactly the opposite.
5) The idea that Farquhar is dreaming is implied when it says that he is swinging like pendulum, and is swirling in the water, and also when he can no longer feel his legs. B) Because he falls into the water and is also describing how he runs into the forest back home which is much similar to his dream.
6) No the portrayal of Farquhar’s final thought and sensations are not realistic because there too extravagant.
7) Limited third person point of view is good because you don’t know what everyone else is thinking and the reader doesn’t know that he is dreaming. B) If it was omniscient third person point of view there would be no suspense and the reader would be able to know that he was dreaming.
8) He starts the story off in the middle without knowing what he did keeping suspense. Then later the flash back answers the questions to what happened.
