Literary devices and techniques

1.      Character- individual who take part in the action of a story

2.      Main character- Character the events in the story mostly revolve around

3.      Minor character- Less prominent characters

4.      Dynamic character- Main characters that change as the plot unfolds

5.      Static character- Characters who remain the same

6.      Setting- The time and place events occur in a particular story

7.      Plot- Chain of events that take place in a story

8.      Exposition- Groundwork that provides the reader with essential background information

9.      Inciting incident-

10.  Rising action- Complications arise causing difficulties for the main characters and making the conflict more difficult to resolve

11.  Climax- Turning point of the action, the movement when interest and intensity reach their peak

12.  Falling action- Consists of the events that occur after the climax, usually after climax resolves.

13.  Denouement/resolution- Untying. In this, the tangles of the plot are untied and mysteries are solved.

14.  Theme- important idea or message conveyed by a work of fiction. It is a perception about life or human nature that the writer shares with the reader
