Letter
from ancient Rome
Dear
Mom and Dad,
There
is so much going on in Rome today.
There are many changes and differences taking place here. There are some good
changes as well as some bad changes, things the people want and things the
people do not want. There are also a lot of other things going on besides
changes. The Romans have lead out the Etruscan King, and Rome
is now a state of small cities. Rome
is expanding rapidly. We have now moved in to Italy,
forcing out the Etruscan rulers. Everything in Italy
from the Rubicon river to the tip of the southern
peninsula. The expansion has helped form a new type of government, it is called
a Republic. There is a senate with about 300 members. There is a ruler called a
dictator and he has full control over the government for six months.
In
the conquest of taking over Italy,
we ran upon Carthage, a new
rival. Rome
and Carthage do not get a long very
well. There are battles and wars, and it is not good. We have won the first
battle but who knows what will happen next.
Wish
us luck. From,
Kevin
