Purity is the meaning, also the color red. More specifically the quality of flame.
Most familiar references are to Biblical passages, for example...."and He will purify [purrhos] the sons of Levi." Malachi 3:3, passage from Handel's "Messiah"
Many references to the second horse of the Apocalypse, the red [purrhos] horse. The horse and horesman of purification. Many associate Christ himself with this rider.
