in a way i think capital punishment is sometimes the only way to deal with some people, not because i think they are so evil they have no place on Earth but because there is no one out there that would give up their life to help "evil" people "get better". for example, if there were a murdering necrophiliac who killed lots of people, mutilated the bodies and then put them under the floorboards, i dont think there are many people who would want to spend time making them...i dont know, sane enough to re enter society without wanting to kill anyone else. i dont know what to do with criminally insane people. some people do just kill people because they want to, and i think that they should be made do realise how much pain they caused and should be punished, but sometimes people are so psychologically damaged already, which sometimes causes them to kill in the first place, that there is nothing that anyone could say or do to erase everything and make them happy and...safe to be around other people anymore. so in a way the death penalty is sometimes the only way out, because there is no alternative that would lead to a safe reintroduction into society for the criminal and other people they would come into contact with. i am against it because i think that it doesnt accomplish anything, and that if you want the person to suffer you should keep them alive and ostracize them from human contact completely, which is incredibly cruel. so there should be some form of help, but im not sure what that should or could be. unless there was a memory eraser type device. it would work for the criminal because they would lose all the psychological damage which made them kill in the first place. however it wouldnt work for anyone who had heard of the killer in the media, because, even if people knew they had been "wiped" i think people would still be scared. and also they would return to the state of a small child unless there was selective wiping. i think that would take too long too develop and even if wiping was invented, in the style of nuclear power, governments would start using it without any thought to the consequences and then complain about how much it was costing. it think there shouldnt be capital punishment, and i find the concept of people being so obsessed with something or someone or an act (?) that they could do some incredibly awful things, forgetting about what would happen to them afterwards and not being afraid enough to think straight hard to understand/cope with. i think it is a sign we are failing as human race that there is so much damage to people going on that they commit such evil acts, and that there should be equal amounts of attention given to the cause, instead of so much on the effects. |
