Capital Punishment Feedback
Umm basically if you kill someone, you are then as bad as them and you are a murderer therefore by the justice system that you had wanted in place you would deserve to be killed and teh whole thing would go on and on! But i feel they should be locked up as if someone takes a life they should be
made to pay for what they have done! At the moment if you get life imprisonment it doens't actually mean your entire life it means like 80 years, i think they should be in there for ever!

in a way i think capital punishment is sometimes the only way to deal with some people, not because i think they are so evil they have no place on Earth but because there is no one out there that would give up their life to help "evil" people "get better". for example, if there were a murdering necrophiliac who killed lots of people, mutilated the bodies and then put them under the floorboards, i dont think there are many people who would want to spend time making them...i dont know, sane enough to re enter society without wanting to kill anyone else. i dont know what to do with criminally insane people. some people do just kill people because they want to, and i think that they should be made do realise how much pain they caused and should be punished, but sometimes people are so psychologically damaged already, which sometimes causes them to kill in the first place, that there is nothing that anyone could say or do to erase everything and make them happy and...safe to be around other people anymore. so in a way the death penalty is sometimes the only way out, because there is no alternative that would lead to a safe reintroduction into society for the criminal and other people they would come into contact with.
i am against it because i think that it doesnt accomplish anything, and that if you want the person to suffer you should keep them alive and ostracize them from human contact completely, which is incredibly cruel. so there should be some form of help, but im not sure what that should or could be. unless there was a memory eraser type device. it would work for the criminal because they would lose all the psychological damage which made them kill in the first place. however it wouldnt work for anyone who had heard of the killer in the media, because, even if people knew they had been "wiped" i think people would still be scared. and also they would return to the state of a small child unless there was selective wiping. i think that would take too long too develop and even if wiping was invented, in the style of nuclear power, governments would start using it without any thought to the consequences and then complain about how much it was costing.
it think there shouldnt be capital punishment, and i find the concept of people being so obsessed with something or someone or an act (?) that they could do some incredibly awful things, forgetting about what would happen to them afterwards and not being afraid enough to think straight hard to understand/cope with. i think it is a sign we are failing as human race that there is so much damage to people going on that they commit such evil acts, and that there should be equal amounts of attention given to the cause, instead of so much on the effects.

I would just like to say these have been copied straight from the e-mails I have received, so any spelling mistakes are not my fault!
QUESTIONS
Is Capital Punishment only a punishment for murder?
No. In Britain it was also a punishment for treason until it was abolished, although treason isn't really such a crime nowadays. In ye olde britaine it could be punishment for many other crimes but we are looking at this from a modern perspective and that was in sort of tudor times or what have you. In some countries where capital punishment is still used, however, it can be used as punishment for other things, such as rape, or even pickpocketing and other minor crimes like that. I tried to get an exact breakdown of which countries punish which crimes, but I couldn't find one. There is, however, a breakdown of which countries use which kind of punishment here. That information was obtained from the very good Amnesty International page. They have a particular section just on Capital Punishment, which is worth looking at. (Hmm, I seem a bit trigger happy with the old links there....)
