| The Veggie Lark Ok. Yes, I am a vegetarian. But I'm going to clear up a few misconceptions because I'm bored with explaining things to people and it's bloody repeptitive. 1. No, plants do not have feelings too. They lack a central nervous system which animals have so they feel pain etc. 2. No, we are not supposed to eat meat. There is more evidence to show that we are evolved from vegetarian primates, which is reflected in our hands, teeth and digestive systems. 3. No, just because other animals eat meat it does not justify us eating it. Other animals crap all over the place and sniff each other's arses to say hello. You can't pick some of their characteristics and not others! 4. No, we don't have freedom of choice. We can't just choose to shout obscenities at old people or kick people because we feel like it (well only sometimes anyway). As if that wasn't enough, what about this suspiciously vegetarian-sounding warning from the mighty Floyd themselves? (Find it on "Animals", track 4 "Sheep", very quietly in the middle of the song.) "The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He makes me down to lie through pastures green. He leadeth me the silent waters by. With bright knives he releaseth my soul. He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places. He converteth me to lamb cutlets. For lo he hath great power and great hunger. When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection and great dedication Master the art of karate, Lo we shall rise up, And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water." |
