Groovy Bands
This is the bit where I have a bit of a rave about some bands I happen to like quite a lot to try and convince you to think like me and buy their CDs. Well, if you're here then you obviously like listening to me so let's go. And if you're one of those year 10 kids who keep calling me "Muse Girl", I will now explain to you why they're cool and you're stupid.
Muse: Devonshire indie-angst-rock trio Best Songs: Unintended; Muscle Museum; Feeling Good. Gorgeous blokes?: Ooooh yeah! Matt Bellamy, number 1 gorgeous thin indie bloke. Why you should buy all their stuff: Cos they're lovely! All angsty and gorgeously cool. And wicked live as I well know *happy sigh*. Space: Weirdly cool scouse gits Best Songs: Me and You Versus the World; Neighbourhood Gorgeous blokes?: Yep! The lovely, lovely Tommy Scott who I have personally spoken to on the phone! (thanks to the also lovely Battybat) Why you should buy all their stuff: Cos they're a bit weird (who else would write a song containing the lyrics "At number 69 there lives a transvestite/he's a man by day but he's a woman at night"?) but very groovy and very funny. And many of their songs are nothing less than anthems. Catatonia: Pretty, weepy girly indie pop Best Songs: Dazed, Beautiful and Bruised; Road Rage; Bleed Gorgeous blokes?: Not really to my taste. Why you should buy all their stuff: because their stuff is nothing less than beautiful, to be frank. Cerys is a rock goddess. Daisy Chainsaw: Girly screamy indie punk Best Songs: I Hope All Your Dreams Come True; Love Your Money Gorgeous blokes?: Er, no not really. Ladyboys! Why you should buy all their stuff: Well they only actually did one album, and that was in 1992 so it may be hard to track down. I have their album though and it is very good, and very obscure. Radiohead: Indie misery aplenty Best Songs: No Surprises; Creep; Just; Killer Cars; 2+2=5 Gorgeous blokes?: Yes, Thom, although he was yummier in their "The Bends" days. Why you should buy all their stuff: People say they're depressing but they're not, they're great. I could listen to them for hours, and do on regular occasions. Garbage: Angry girly indie rock Best Songs: You Look So Fine; Stupid Girl Gorgeous blokes?: No. Just no. Why you should buy all their stuff: Because they're so girly and gritty. But don't buy their new stuff - it's bollocks. Snake River Conspiracy: Girly angry rock crossing into metal-type lark Best Songs: Do I have to choose? You And Your Friend; How Soon Is Now? Gorgeous blokes?: Hahahahahahahaha. Why you should buy all their stuff: Because they have some really cool, gritty songs, ranging from sweetly dark ones to screamy metal ones. Cracking fun for all the family. Sleeper: Brit pop girls will lurve it Best Songs: What Do I Do Now?; Shrinkwrapped Gorgeous blokes?: Dunno. Why you should buy all their stuff: Cos they're proper old indie - split up in about 1998 - and oh so girly and pretty! Pink Floyd: Old guys rock... Best Songs: (this is nigh on impossible) Wish You Were Here; Time Gorgeous blokes?: Nooooooooo! Why you should buy all their stuff: Cos they're classic old rock, with a wicked mix of styles from their dizzy drug-inspired sixties pop, to their awkward, grim Roger Waters stuff. Although yes, as Jo likes to remind me, they did used to be called The T-Set. Do yourself a favour and buy a copy of "Echoes". Placebo: Nasal indie cross-dressers Best Songs: Every You, Every Me; Nancy Boy Gorgeous blokes?: Oooh yeah - Brian Molko, number 2 most gorgeous thin indie boy. Why you should buy all their stuff: They're just so cool - indie, groany and gripy. Wicked. Black Box Recorder: Spooky girly dark indie-pop Best Songs: Goodnight Kiss; Start As You Mean to Go On; GSOH Q.E.D Gorgeous blokes?: Ooooh, nooo! Why you should buy all their stuff: Ooh, they're groovy, whispery, depressing and ever-so-slightly sarcastic. Listen out for their tounge-in-cheek references to English life. Listen to their even weirder b-sides (and that dodgy, dodgy remix of "Facts Of Life" on the wicked "Worst of Black Box Recorder". Ash: Is is rock? Is it pop? Is it indie? No, sort of rocky-poppy-indie really. Best Songs: Angel Interceptor; Sometimes; their cover of Teenage Kicks Gorgeous blokes?: Yep! Tim Wheeler - lead singer and guitarist! I've stood a metre in front of him making an "I love you" sign. He didn't see me. Why you should buy all their stuff: Cos they're cool indie-rawk brit pop type lark. And I've seen them live and they rock.
