You Belong To Me CH 2
“Gia? Gia wake up!”
Gia’s eyes slowly fluttered open, her mind raced as she thought about where
she was. The dream she was having still lingered on. She slowly raised her head
and looked around. Her arms were folded on the table in front of her and she was
sitting in a chair. She realized that she had fallen asleep on her books. She
looked down at the various textbooks under her arms and scanned over them. On
the top of the stack, lay her goal on life Child Welfare and the law. Since the
young age of 8 years old, Gia made it her life’s work. When her mother Flo
adopted she and her brother and raised them well, Gia knew she was one of the
lucky ones. Not every kid had a happy ending like she had and she wanted to help
the kids who didn’t.
Gia yawned as she sat up and stretched her arms out as she smiled up at her
friends. Rory was her best friend; her auburn hair was pulled in a high
ponytail. The tall, light complexioned girl bore her beep blue eyes into Gia’s
as one of her hands was resting on her hip. Gia looked over at her other best
friend. Caleb was half sitting on one of the library tables next to them. His
sandy blond hair was spiked and his green eyes were laughing at her. “What?”
Gia asked. Caleb laughed and gestured to her forehead. Gia reached up to feel
something stuck to it, she pulled off the Post-it Note that was stuck to it and
laughed with her friends. “You’re going to be late Gia, Mrs. Blackler’s
class is in 10mins and it’s all the way on the other side of campus.” Rory
said quickly. “Oh god you’re right!” Gia exclaimed as she stood up. She
grunted as a pain coursed through her neck and shoulders as she stood up. She
ignored her pain and grabbed all her books, dumped them in her book bag and
headed out of the library. Rory was in her same class but Caleb said bye to the
girls because his was on the opposite side of the campus.
Gia rushed along the campus of Colombia University, heading for her one of her
evening classes. It was her hardest but favorite class, Child Advocate-session
A. She knew that Mrs. Blackler liked her but she would not put up with
tardiness. She arrived just in time, there were plenty of students already
seated but she was clearly not the last to arrive. Gia found it hard to focus on
the class but she got by. When the class was over, Rory joined her and walked
out with her. They headed for the dorm room they shared and Rory noticed how
quite Gia was. “Is something wrong Gia?” Rory asked her friend with concern.
Gia looked over at Rory and smiled weakly. “Yeah I just can’t shake this
dream I just had when you woke me up.” Gia said. “What was it about?” Rory
asked. “A guy.” Gia said. Rory’s eyes widened. “Gia! You had a dream
about a guy? Who is he? Oh I bet it’s that guy at the coffee shop, what’s
his name? Owen?” Rory rambled on. Gia glared at her. “No! It’s no one I
know.” Gia said. Rory’s forehead knitted in confusion. “Well tell me about
it.” Rory said. “Well I didn’t really see him. I was walking on a beach,
in my favorite white dress and I could just feel him there. I can’t explain
it.” Gia said. “Well it sounds like it was a good dream, too bad you had to
wake up before you saw his face.” Rory said. Gia nodded her head slowly.
Gia got ready for bed and slipped into her comfy but small bed in her dorm room.
She sighed. If only she had seen his face. She could almost feel the heat of his
energy on her shoulder. Gia closed her eyes and tried to sleep, and she finally
did when the sun came up.
