Ch 3

Nikolas was in shock. Did that just happen? From the moment he saw her, the beautiful woman he just met intrigued Nik. He had never experienced anything like that his whole life. It was like love at first sight. His heart was pounding and his knees were weak. Even when she spoke crudely to him he was fascinated with her. These feelings were too strong to be merely lust. It was her charisma if you will. The way she crossed her arms in front of her. The way she tilted her head and her eyes flashed with fury at him.

When Gia left the room Nik didn’t know what to do or say. What confused him the most is that he thought, no he knew that she felt the same way about him as he did of her. Maybe not in love but at least intrigued, attracted, impressed? Nik pulled himself out of his thoughts and fallowed her into the other room.

“Gia, it is so nice to see you.” Stefan said. “I haven’t seen you since you were a baby.” He said with a smile. “Have I changed much?” Gia asked with a smile. “I should say so.” Stefan nodded. “You are a very beautiful woman now.” Stefan said as he kissed her hand. Any other woman would have blushed, but Gia simply smiled politely and thanked him. Gia turned around to face her parents and that’s when she saw Nik in the doorway, causing a shiver throughout her body. He was watching her every move and it made her uncomfortable, so she glared at him.

Nik watched as his uncle kissed Gia’s hand and felt a flush of envy. Why hadn’t he thought to kiss her hand? His uncle tolled him when he was very young that that was the polite thing to do when you meet a woman. He knew he blew it. She looked up at him and his heart pounded, then she glared at him, but this only made him want her more.

“Ah Nikolas, so glad you could join us.” Stefan said when he saw Nik inter the room. Stefan knew his nephew so well, he knew that Nikolas was completely enamored with Gia and this fact made Stefan very happy. That’s all he’d ever wanted for his nephew was for him to be happy and he believed that Gia would make him very happy someday. “Come here please, Nikolas.” He said with a smile.

Nikolas was finally able to pull himself together, he became aware that he was beginning to look intimidated by Gia and he did not want her to think that. He smiled at his uncle and confidently strode over to him. Glancing briefly at Gia on his way. “Yes uncle?” He said when he reached him. “This is Lord Alvaro Montes of Spain, and his lovely wife Florence Montes.” “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Nikolas said, kissing Florence’s hand and bowing Alvaro. “I’ve heard so much about you Nikolas.” Alvaro said in a thick Spanish accent. “All good things I hope.” Nik said with a grin. Gia rolled her eyes, witch Nik caught. “I’m sure we all have much to talk about so why don’t we have diner?” Stefan said, escorting everyone into the dining room. Stefan pulled Nik back and whispered in his ear, “Mashaka is her African name for trouble.” He said. Stefan smiled at the intrigued look on his nephews face.

As they sat at the dinner table, Gia’s parents tolled Nikolas all about how they met. And about how although Florence was a relative of Moulay Hicham, an African prince, making her of royal blood. She was not accepted into the Montes family. So they fled Spain, where they had met and fell in love, so that they could be together. They were so young when they met, and Alvaro was not old enough to rule his country yet but he knew that when he turned 25, that he must return. They were living in America in hiding when Florence had Gia. Florence wanted Gia to have an American first name, so she chose the name Gia and her middle name was after an ancestor of Florence’s African heritage named Mashaka, meaning trouble. She joked that the name fit her daughter well. When Alvaro turned 25 they were forced to make a big decision. They moved their new family (themselves and Gia) back to Spain for Alvaro to rule. Florence was aloud to stay married to Alvaro because of Gia, but she found that it was extremely hard to fit in to Alvaro’s world and she wanted better for her daughter. She met Stefan Cassadine at a royal ball and spoke of her concerns for her baby girl’s future, that’s when they made the deal. Stefan’s nephew Nikolas was to marry Flo’s daughter Gia.

When Gia was old enough to attend school, they sent her away to live with Flo’s sister Jasmine, her husband James and her son Marcus who lived in Brooklyn. That's where Gia went to collage, at Colombia University. Gia changed her last name to Campbell; witch was her grandmother’s maiden name. Gia would visit Spain every summer but would always return to her aunt’s house for the rest of the school year.

Last month was the first time her parents had visited America since Gia was born, and the only reason they were there, was to tell Gia that she was to marry a prince and to escort her to meet her new family.
