Uninvited CH 16

Gia’s eyes opened with the recognition that today was different from just any other day at Wyndemere. Today she was totally and completely alone in the house with Nikolas. Stefan had left early this morning and today was the first day that he would be gone. Gia’s heart began to race a little at the prospect of being alone with Nikolas. She sat up and looked around her sun-drenched room, the white gauzy material that was hanging from her bed cast beautiful shadows on the floor. She smiled and thought today was going to be a wonderful day. She quickly got showered and dressed. Wearing a white baby-t and jeans she took a deep breath and headed for the door.

Nik as usual, sat in the kitchen with his paper. He tried to tell himself that today was like any other day, but he knew it wasn’t. He had decided that he was trying too hard with Gia. She had to be blind if she didn’t know by now how he felt about her. It was her turn to let him know how she feels about him. Nik decided that he was going to change the direction to his approach with her. Instead of acting over eager, he was going to try what girls like to call the “hard to get” approach.

Gia entered the kitchen and was not surprised to find Nik sitting at the table reading the paper. Gia noticed the fact that they were dressed alike; he too was wearing jeans and a white shirt. His hair was messy, just the way she liked it. She couldn’t help but think he looked sexy. The only difference was that he didn’t look up when she entered the room. But why should that matter? She thought.

“Hey.” Gia said as the door swung shut behind her and she stepped in. “Hey.” Nik lightly muttered never taking his eyes off of the paper. A twinge of hurt stung Gia as she walked past him. A smile curled on her lips as her fingers lightly ran along the peaches in their usual bowl on the counter. Her smile faded when he still did not look at her.

It was taking all of his power for Nikolas to ignore Gia. Looking at her was one of his favorite things to do. But he had to stick to his plan. It was not like him to be so rude, only saying hey to her when she spoke to him, but he had to. He hoped that she didn’t notice when his eyes lightly fluttered as she brushed past him. He closed his eyes and inhaled her usual coconut scent she loved to wear. His heartbeat quickened when he noticed the direction she was heading, the fruit bowl.

Gia suddenly didn’t have an appetite anymore so she plopped herself in the seat next to Nik and crossed her arms in front of her. She sighed when he didn’t even seem to notice her sitting there. “What are you reading?” She finally asked. “The paper.” He replied unexcitedly. Gia huffed in annoyance. “Well obviously. Anything in particular?” Gia asked. “Your in a mood today.” Nik said, still never taking his eyes off of his paper. Gia’s mouth dropped, witch she was sure he didn’t even see. “I’m in a mood? Well your being a rude jerk!” Gia said starting to get up. Gia was caught off guard when Nik grabbed her arm and lightly brought her back down to her seat. She sucked in a breath when he looked her in the face and smiled. “What do you want Sparky?” Nik said lightly touching her cheek. Gia became flushed. “I, I just wanted you to at least look at me.” Gia stammered. “Well, I’m looking at you now. What do you want?” He asked. Gia looked down. “I don’t know.” Gia said.

Nik didn’t know what he was doing. This wasn’t his plan at all. But he couldn’t let her leave and be mad at him. He thought it might be better anyway. This way he could corner her into telling him what she wanted. She gave him her answer, but it didn’t really help. It was that she didn’t know what she wanted. “Do you want to go horse back riding?” Nik suddenly blurted out. He could see her look of confusion and smiled. Gia looked at him and smiled back. Nik almost lost it, having the sudden urge to grab her and kiss her passionately. But he decided that would not be a good idea. “Sure.” Gia said biting her bottom lip. Nik had to look away from her. He stood up and headed towards the door. “Lets go.” He said gesturing to the door.
