Uninvited CH 13
As Nik drove he thought of Gia, about the
letter she got in the mail. He knew that it must have been from that guy Zander.
What’s so great about this guy anyway? What does he have that I don’t? Nik
asked himself. Nik didn’t know where he was going. He drove until he ended up
at Kelly’s; he walked in and saw Liz behind the counter. “Hey Nikolas
what’s up? Liz asked. “Oh hey Liz, not much, can I get a soda?” Nik asked,
sitting down on a stool at the counter. “Sure” Liz said. “Your working
kind of late tonight.” Nik said. “Yeah my shifts over at 10:00 so I only
have about 15 minutes left of my shift.” Liz said. “Oh that’s good.” Nik
said. “So what happened with you and Gia tonight? I thought you wanted to hang
out with us?” Liz asked. “Yeah well Gia wanted to leave, so we did.” Nik
said. “Oh I see. You know I have to tell you I don’t know how you put up
with that girl.” Liz said. “I know, it’s hard sometimes but I don’t have
much choice.” Nik said. “Yeah well I’ll try a little harder to get along
with her for your sake OK?” Liz said. “Thanks Liz.” Nik said. Nik finished
his soda and walked out. He noticed it was starting to rain so we hurried to get
in his car and headed home.
The words Nik said were floating through Gia’s head and a pain hit her heart
with every one. Spoiled, impossible, cold. Tears continued to drip down her face
as laid her head on the rock. But why do I feel this way? Gia asked herself. I
don’t love him. I don’t even like him right? She thought. This is just what
I wanted; I don’t want to marry him. She brought her hands up to her lips and
touched them lightly, thinking about the kiss she shared with him. She had never
had feelings like that before. Maybe I do have feelings for him? But it’s too
late now he hates me, she said out loud. She lay there crying until she felt a
cold drop of water hit her arm, fallowed by more. She looked up at the sky and
watched as rain started to fall harder. She looked over just in time to see a
lightning bolt flashed behind her. A few seconds went by when she heard a rumble
of thunder. She pulled her leather jacket more tightly around her but it
didn’t help fight off the cold she was feeling in her small black dress. She
stood up and headed back towards the bridge.
Nik quickly ran up to the house, trying to get out of the thunderstorm that he
was trapped in. He opened the door to Wyndemere and was greeted with warmth when
he entered. As soon as he closed the door Stefan came around the corner.
“Nikolas, did you see Gia while you were out?” Stefan asked. “Gia, why?”
Nik asked. “I went to go tell her goodnight and when she wouldn’t come to
the door, I became worried so I opened it and she wasn’t there.” Stefan
said. “What?” Nik said getting worried. “I’ve looked everywhere, I have
people searching for her on the grounds but no one has been able to find her. I
thought maybe you came across her in town.” Stefan said. But it was only
hoping because I found the door going out of the study left wide open.” Stefan
said. “The study?” Nik asked, getting a sinking feeling in the pit of his
stomach. “Do you think she could have heard what I said about her?” Nik
asked. Stefan said nothing and looked down at the ground. “Nikolas it was my
job to keep her safe and I’ve lost her. What will I tell her parents if
something bad has happened to her?” Stefan stated rather than asked. “Oh god
I have to go look for her.” Nik said grabbing his coat and running out of the
room. “Nikolas, be careful!” Stefan yelled after him.
Gia was soaked as she climbed off of the rocks; she headed for the bridge and
ran across it, her feet slipped on the wet wood of the bridge. She felt her body
fly head first as she went sliding. Her face hit the wood and she felt a sting
across her cheek where it hit. She looked up and saw that she was just about to
slide off the side of the bridge. She put her hand in front of her to stop
herself. When she was finally able to get control over her body, she carefully
pushed her self up crying out in pain and walked the rest of the bridge.
“Gia!!” Nik yelled when he reached the stables. He was sure that he would
find her there. “Gia!!” Nik yelled again, searching the stable. He didn’t
see her anywhere. He had been looking for her for over an hour and that’s when
he thought of the stable. Wyndemere was so big; she could easily get lost on
this island. He decided to go back and check in with his uncle to see if Gia had
come back.
It was raining so hard that Gia could barely see in front of her. She walked and
walked, not quit sure what direction to walk to but finally she saw a light
shining off in the distance. Her heart lifted with relief as she ran in the
direction of the light.
“Uncle, has Gia come back?” Nik asked entering the door from the kitchen
where the lights were on. Nik was dripping wet now as he stopped in the doorway.
He looked up when heard thunder crash outside. “No, she hasn’t come back. I
was hoping that you would have some luck.” Stefan said. “Well we can’t
just stand around and do nothing while she’s out there uncle.” Nik said.
“Nikolas I have all the staff members looking for her. We will find her.”
Stefan said.
