My New Best Friend CH 9
Nik woke up with Gia in his arms; he had rocked her until she fell asleep. When
she finally closed her eyes, he laid back and went to sleep as well. Gia slept
silently the rest of the night. Nik woke up scared, feeling trapped underneath
her. He tried to ease her off of him and get out of the bed, but she woke up.
She looked around groggily. “What happened?” Gia asked. “You uh got drunk
again, and you fell asleep here.” Nik said. Gia sighed and then cuddled up
next to him again. “I don’t remember much, I just remember you rocking me to
sleep. Well I slept better then I have in weeks.” Gia said stroking his hair
with her fingertips. “I was, Gia I didn’t mean for that to happen, I just
fell asleep.” Nik said. Gia raised her head from his chest and looked at him.
“Mean for what to happen?” She asked. “You know, for us to spend the night
in each others arms.” Nik said. Gia suppressed the tears she felt rising, “I
see, well I guess I’ll go then, I’m sure I’ve over stayed my welcome.”
Gia said moving to get out of the bed. “Gia wait.” Nik said grabbing her
hand. She turned around to look at him, waiting to hear what he had to say.
“You were having a really bad dream and I rocked you to sleep, that’s
all.” Nik said. “I know.” Gia said looking down. “You don’t have to
go, I’m sorry.” He said softy, reaching out and touching her cheek softly.
She nodded her head slightly. “Can I take a shower?” She asked. “Uh
yeah.” Nik said. He went and got her a towel and left her to take a shower.
Nik headed downstairs, realizing that he never called his brother last night, he
went and retrieved the phone and dialed Lucky’s number.
Lucky: Hello this is lucky.
Nik: Hey man.
Lucky: Nikolas I’ve been worried sick, is she Ok?
Nik: I don’t know. She had a really hard night last night. She had a really
bad dream, she was crying.
Lucky: Oh man, what was it about, is she OK?
Nik: I don’t know she didn’t tell me I think it’s pretty bad though.
Lucky: Well I think you should help her out bro, I think she trusts you.
Nik: I can’t.
Lucky: Well someone needs to or I think Gia’s going to really be in serious
trouble.
Nik: I have to go.
Lucky: OK I’ll talk to you later.
Nik/Lucky: Bye
Nik heard a horrible scream come from upstairs and ran to see what was wrong. He
burst into the room and made his way to where the sound was coming from. “Gia,
what’s wrong?” He asked concerned. She was wrapped in a towel and standing
in the corner. “There’s a spider.” Gia said in a small voice. Nik sighed.
“My god Gia so you scream like that? Where is it? Geez.” Nik said walking
up. Gia pointed to the little brown spider on the shower wall. “This little
thing?” Nik asked looking at her oddly. Gia nodded her head. Nik grabbed a
piece of toilet tissue and grabbed the spider, flushing it down the toilet.
“There, you happy?” Nik asked. Gia smiled shyly. “Yes, I hate spiders.”
Gia said. Nik finally noticed how beautiful she looked, looking up at him with
wide eyes, biting down on her lower lip slightly as she smiled. Her bare
shoulders were still wet from her shower. Time stood still as they looked at
each other. “Well you’re welcome to stay and watch but I think I’m going
to get dressed now.” Gia said smiling at him. Nik looked away shyly. “No I
uh I’ll leave.” He stumbled. He turned and walked out the door, his heart
pounding.
Nik sat at the table and drank a cup of coffee. His nerves were on edge. He
looked up when Gia came in; she had stolen one of his work shirts and put it on,
tying at the bottom, showing off her sexy stomach. “I hope you don’t mind,
my shirt was uh pretty dirty.” Gia said softly. “No that’s OK, do you want
some coffee?” He asked. Gia nodded her head and smiled. They sat and sipped
quietly for a while. “Thank you for being there for me, usually I have Seth to
get me through bad nights.” Gia said smiling at him. “Gia what was that? You
were so upset, it scared me.” Nik said. Gia sighed. “I just have bad dreams
that’s all.” “So what was your dream about?” Nik asked. “I don’t
want to talk about it.” Gia said simply. “It might help.” Nik said. “Why
don’t we talk about your fear of commitment?” Gia said raising her eyebrow.
“It’s not like that Gia, I’m not scared. I just don’t have time. You
see, my uncle spent his whole life raising me to take over the family business,
I can’t just throw it all away for a woman.” Nik said. “Stop it!” Gia
said covering up her ears. “I don’t want to hear your excuses Nikolas.”
Gia said shaking her head. “Sorry.” Nik mumbled. They were quiet again,
sitting in silence until there was a knock at the door. Nik got up to go see who
it was, leaving Gia in the kitchen.
“Hey man thank you so much for taking care of things last night.” Seth said
as Nik let him in. “Hey no problem.” Nik said. “Did everything go OK?”
Seth asked. “Well no not exactly, she had a bad dream last night, she woke up
crying, she was asking for you actually.” Nik said scratching the back of his
neck. “Oh god, well I should have known she would, she has them every night.
I’m just sorry I wasn’t here for her, did she freak out?” Seth asked.
“Well she did at first but I held her and rocked her to sleep.” Nik said.
“You did?” Seth asked. Nik looked down shyly. “Yeah.” He said quietly.
“Wow she must really trust you, you know she seems really friendly and all but
she’s not like that with everyone. You should feel lucky, she’s a great
person.” Seth said. Nik nodded his head. “Yeah she is.” Nik said under his
breath. “Gia!” Seth yelled. Gia came rushing through the door and
immediately went running into her best friend’s arms. They locked in a warm
embrace, until Gia pulled away and looked up at him. “I’m so sorry Seth.”
She said looking him in the eyes. “I’m sorry too.” Seth said touching one
of her braids. Gia gave him a kiss and they smiled at each other. “Gia your
brother is worried sick about you, we need to go home.” Seth said. Gia shook
her head no. “I don’t want to see him, Seth I can’t stand living there.”
Gia said. “I know that Gia but what do you want me to do.” Seth said
desperately. Gia got an idea. She turned to Nikolas, whom she caught staring at
her, causing him to blush. She smiled at him. “Can we move in here with you?
You have so much room.” Gia said. “I don’t know Gia, I mean I have a lot
of work to do right now.” Nik said. She cocked her head to the side.
“Please, we won’t get in the way I promise.” Gia said looking him in the
eye. Nik couldn’t believe this girl. “Fine, but just until you find some
place to stay.” Nik said pointing his finger at her. She smiled and ran over
to him, wrapping her arms around his neck. “This is going to be great,
you’ll see.” Gia said happily, leaning in and kissing him on the cheek. She
turned and grabbed Seth’s hand, pulling him out of the door to go get their
things. Leaving Nikolas, speechless as he wondered why on earth he said yes to
her.
