My
New Best Friend CH 6
Seth
woke up with Gia in his arms, he looked around the room they were in and
realized where he was. He was in the room Taggert provided them to stay in. It
really was small, they needed a place of their own and soon. He would have to
look for a job today, he wondered if a town like this would be hiring a
bartender or a DJ. Those were the only two things he was trained for. Seth
rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand. Last night had been a rough night;
Gia woke up crying twice during the night. It was something she hadn’t done
since they were young. But ever since her mother died Gia had been having a
really hard time sleeping. But he would rock her and sooth her until she calmed
down and then fall back asleep. Even when she was asleep it was a restless one.
Seth gently removed himself from underneath Gia and got out of bed. He walked
over to the small shower and got in. He stepped out of the shower and went to
grab some clothes to wear. He put on his black jeans and found a gray sweater to
wear. He quickly spiked his dark hair and put on his back shoes. Going over to
Gia he knelt down in front of the bed. “Hey, Gia.” He said as he lightly
shook her. She groaned as her eyes fluttered open. “Red, what time is it?”
Gia asked groggily. Seth glanced over at the clock. “9:00am.” He said
smiling. Gia stretched her arms, knowing it was a perfectly acceptable time to
get up. “You look good.” She said smiling. “Thank you, I’m going to go
find a job today.” Seth said proudly. Gia grunted. “I suppose I should do
that too.” Gia said thoughtfully. Gia had done some modeling in Brooklyn,
that’s how she paid for her car. But the city was not short of models so she
also had to waitress at a club out there. She had no idea what she would do now
that she moved. “Well good luck.” Gia said giving him a kiss. Seth thanked
her, grabbed his leather jacket and left.
Gia
was dressed in a short denim skirt and black top. She had on a pair of black
knee-high boots and her hair was let down, with thin long braids swinging freely
as she made her way down the stairs of the brownstone. She was grateful that her
brother left a note saying he had left for work already, so she wouldn’t have
to deal with him. Gia looked in her brother’s kitchen for something to eat,
coming up empty. She took note of what a bachelor her brother was. She needed to
move out of here quick. Seth had spent about an hour last night researching the
local bus station, familiarizing him self with the schedule. Gia felt so bad
that he had to sell his Jeep so that they would have some extra money for the
trip. Flo had left Gia a huge amount of money when she died but she wouldn’t
receive it until she was 25. So money was not going to just come her way, Gia
realized that she needed to go out and look for work, but she was so hungry. She
grabbed some cash from her bag and stuck it in her purse and headed for
Kelly’s to get something to eat.
Nikolas
sat at his usual table at Kelly’s and like always was surrounded by a pile of
books. He had a report due in two days so he really needed to cram. “Here
Nikolas.” Liz said as she placed his third cup of coffee down on his table.
“Thanks Liz.” Nik said briefly before returning to his work. “Nikolas,
maybe you should take a little brake? You’ve been here since 6:00 when I got
here. You know we let you in early so that you can study but you’ve been
working none stop.” Liz said. Nik looked up at her and smiled. “I’m fine,
really I just really need to get this done. Thanks for the coffee.” Nik said
and then looked down again. Liz sighed and went back to work behind the counter.
Seth
walked into the classy looking club with his head held high and a smile on his
face. He walked up to the man behind the bar and cleared his throat. “Hi
there, I was wondering if I could speak to your employer?” Seth asked
confidently. “Sure, wait right here and I’ll go get her.” He said. The man
disappeared behind a door in the back. Moments later, a well-dressed blond woman
came walking out. “Hello, Carly Corinthos, how can I help you?” She asked
politely. “Hi my name is Seth and I just moved to town, it’s nice to meet
you.” Seth said holding his hand out, witch Carly accepted and shook. “Nice
to meet you too.” She said. “I was wondering if you have any jobs available
right now? Like I said I’m new in town, I’m in need of a job. I bartend and
I have some experience with DJing.” Seth said. Carly considered him for a
while. “You know we have a lot of help, but I like you so I’ll come up with
something. Would you like to step into my office where we can talk about it?”
Carly asked. Seth grinned and nodded his head yes. “That would be great.” He
said as he fallowed Carly into her office.
Nikolas
was reading when all of the sodden he felt something brush up against his cheek.
He looked up in shock to see Gia sitting next him; he felt a tingle on his cheek
where she kissed it. He couldn’t help but smile at her. “Hey cutie, what are
you doing?” Gia asked as she leaned over the table to observe the books
scattered everywhere. “Uh, just studying for a project I have for school.”
Nik said. “Do you have a job prince?” Gia asked. Nik was confused by her
question. “Yes..” He said slowly. “Where do you work?” Gia asked. “I
work for a record company called L&B, mostly PR stuff. Why?” Nik asked.
“I need a job.” Gia sighed. Nik nodded his head. “Well you can have
mine.” Nik said. “Really? That sounds so cool! I would love to work in the
music industry!” Gia said getting excited. “No Gia I was kidding.” Nik
said before she could say any more. Gia frowned. “I’m sorry.” Nik said.
“Well I need to find something.” Gia said as she rested her head on her
hands.
Liz
came up to Gia and smiled. “Hi Gia, you know what? Nikolas is really busy
right now and really doesn’t have time to talk to anyone. He’s probably too
polite to say anything to you but I’m sure he doesn’t need to be bothered by
you right now. How about I get you breakfast and you can go eat at another
table?” Liz said. Gia was shocked, was this girl for real? She was pissed when
she looked over at Nik and he didn’t say anything. Turning to Liz, she glared
up at her. “You know, I think that’s probably the rudest and most
condescending thing anyone’s ever said to me, and I’m from Brooklyn.” Gia
said angrily. She looked over at Nikolas who continued to say nothing; in fact
he wasn’t even looking at her anymore. He was looking down. “But obviously
you’re right, Nikolas doesn’t want to talk to me. You know I think I will go
but not because you said to, but because I’m obviously not wanted here. So
screw you and this stupid diner Elizabeth!” Gia said and turned and walked
out. Nik jumped up from his table and went after her.
Nik
started to run after her but Liz grabbed hold of his arm to stop him.
“Nikolas, you just got through telling me how you don’t need any
distractions right now. Gia will only complicate things more. Just let her
go.” Liz said. Nik slowly nodded his head. He needed to make Gia realize that
she couldn’t be a part of his life and if it meant being mean then that’s
what he had to do.
“Believe
what you want Nikolas but you need me in your life and eventually, you will
understand just how much.” Gia said to no one when she stepped out of
Kelly’s. She sighed and walked off.
