My New Best Friend CH 2

“Seth, will you please stop singing!” Gia cringed. Her hands on the steering wheel, enabling her to cover up her ears. “Come on Gia, sing it with me! Ooo my little pretty one, my pretty one. When you gonna give me some time Sharona? Ooo you make my motor run, my motor run. Gun it comin' off of the line Sharona!” Seth belted. Gia looked over at her smiling friend and couldn’t help but laugh. His hands flailing about, she watched as they suddenly gripped onto the door handle of the car. “Geez, Gia will you slow down?! Your going to get us killed!” Seth yelled. Gia glared over at him. “Will you lighten up? You know if your going to be like this the whole trip I’m going to pull this car around and head home.” Gia said. “Funny.” Seth mumbled. Gia glanced over at Seth’s pouting face as he gazed out the windshield of the car. She sighed and then reached over and grabbed her bag of goodies, pulling out a bag of his favorite candy and tossing it to him. Seth felt the object hit his arm and a smile spread across his face as he picked up the bag of Skittles. “Thanks Gia.” He said opening the bag. “Grape?” He asked but already knew the answer. He picked through the bag and dug out all of the grape ones. Gia smiled as he dropped them into her opened hand.

“G, please we’ve been driving for hours. I know you could drive all day but I need to stop.” Seth said as he squirmed to make himself more comfortable. “Were almost there Red.” Gia said. “Fine!” Seth sighed. Red was Gia’s special name for Seth because that was his favorite flavor of any kind of fruit flavored candy. Gia started to feel a little stiff herself so she decided to stop at a diner she saw a sign for on the side of the road. “Oh thank god!” Seth exclaimed as she pulled into the parking lot. Seth immediately jumped out of the car and stood up. “Oh man I’m so stiff.” He said as he stretched. “Well we’ll just have to exercise our legs.” Gia said. She walked towards Seth who was eyeing her suspiciously. As soon as she was close enough to him, she quickly yanked the backwards baseball cap off of his head and took off with it. They laughed as Seth chased Gia around the practically empty parking lot. Gia being the evil person she can sometimes be, stuck the hat into her pocket and ran at full speed into the diner.

Nik heard the door abruptly open but made no movement to look up. “This place is closed.” Nik said his eyes glued to his book. He heard the door close and went back to focusing on his reading. “Gia give me back my hat!” Seth said laughing as he pulled it out of Gia’s pocket. “Come on, they’re closed.” Gia said. “What? But I’m starving!” Seth said rubbing his stomach. “Well we’ll find something else.” Gia said. “But the lights are on.” Seth said as he attempted to move around her. Gia put her hands up on his chest to stop him. “Look the jerk in there told me they were closed.” Gia said. “What jerk?” Seth asked. “Well I didn’t see his face but he sounded rude OK? Let’s just go find somewhere else.” Gia said. Seth nodded his head and headed back to the car.

Gia continued to drive, for some reason her thoughts lingered on the guy in the diner. Her heart was doing something funny. It was like the sound of his voice excited her. She pushed those thoughts away and continued to drive until she spotted a sign for a place called Luke’s. Seth and Gia pulled into the parking lot and both Jumped out of Gia’s Z8 BMW convertible. They were both eager to get out of the car but as they looked around the parking lot they wondered if this place was closed as well. “Lets go check it out.’ Gia said as she walked up to the door. She swung open the big heavy doors and entered the smoke filled bar. She and Seth walked in and looked around the funky looking club. There were barely any costumers but a friendly looking older man looked up and smiled at them.

“New in town?” Luke asked them. Gia smiled at the man she instantly liked and nodded her head. “Is it that obvious?” Gia asked as she walked closer to the bar. “Well Port Chuck is not the most happening of towns. One tends to notice when someone new comes to town, and who would forget a face like yours.” Luke said with a grin. “Luke’s the name.” He said as he stuck his hand out to Gia. “THE Luke? Like on the sign?” Gia asked. Luke’s chest swelled and his smile broadened. “That would be me darlin.” Luke said. “Gia Campbell.” Gia said slipping her hand into his, which he surprisingly brought up to his lips and kissed. “No drinking OK G?” Seth whispered in her ear. “Whatever dad!” Gia brushed him off. Seth rolled his eyes and sat on the stool next to Gia. “I’m Seth.” He said holding his hand out for Luke to shake. “Nice to meet you.” Luke said shaking his hand. “You too.” Seth said. “What is a cool place like this doing empty on a Friday night?” Gia asked. “Oh, my nut of a niece is opening up her own “club” tonight.” Luke said dryly. “Well, I doubt we could get good music like this someplace else.” Gia said. “You like blues?” Luke asked excitedly. “Born and raised on it!” Gia said proudly. Luke smiled brightly at her and nodded his head. “Well this town could use someone like you to spice things up.” Luke said. Gia felt flattered by his comment. Seth on the other hand was rolling his eyes. Gia turned to a hansom, older man to her left and smiled at him. She ordered her first drink, ignoring Seth’s warning looks.
