My New Best Friend CH 11

Nikolas woke up feeling alone and confused, he looked around for Gia. He sat up on the couch and looked around the room. Scratching his head he wondered if last night was just a dream. It seemed so real, Gia telling him about her life as a child and the dreams that still haunted her until this day. He was suddenly aware of an amazing aroma flowing through his house. Nik stood up and walked into the kitchen, where he spotted Gia. His throat tightened as she was bent over the oven, her tiny short riding up. He watched as she pulled something out and placed it on the stove and turned around. “Hey you.” She said smiling at him. Nik smiled back at her shyly. “Hi, I uh, what are you doing?” Nik asked. Gia walked over and grabbed a basket that was covered with a cloth napkin; she walked over to the table and sat it down. “I made muffins.” She announced uncovering the basket. Nik smiled and when Gia gestured for him to sit down, he quickly obliged. Nik bit into the muffin he was offered and was shocked at how good it was. “Gia this is amazing, what’s in it?” Nik asked. “It’s something my mom taught me how to make. It might sound weird but it’s made with Raisin Bran cereal.” Gia said. Nik was impressed. Gia poured him a cup of coffee to go with his muffin and grabbed a muffin for herself. She smiled at him as she picked at her muffin as she sat down a across from him. “Are you OK Gia?” Nik asked. “Yeah why?” Gia questioned. “Well we talked about some pretty heavy stuff last night and well we kissed.” Nik said gently. “I know Nikolas, I’ve been dealing with that stuff for years, I’m fine really. And about this kiss, you’ve told me time and time again that you don’t have time for a relationship so I respect that. It was just one of those thing that happened in the moment. Nothing big.” Gia said. Nik nodded his head, feeling a pain in his heart, but this is what he wanted right? He went back to eating his muffin.

“Lucy I’m home!” Seth yelled when he walked in. Gia ran at full speed from her spot in the kitchen and jumped into his arms. Seth laughed as he picked her up and she wrapped her legs around his torso. “Oh my god.” Seth said. Gia scrunched up her nose. “What?” She asked. “Is that smell what I think it is?” He asked. Gia smiled brightly and nodded her head. She squealed as Seth practically dropped her and headed for the kitchen. Gia recovered quickly and ran in front of him. “Oh I’m sorry Seth but there’s none left.” Gia said as she stood in his way to block him from going in the kitchen, her hands on the frame of the kitchen door. “Oh don’t make me move you Gia, because I will.” Seth warned. “Yeah right Red.” Gia said rolling her eyes. Seth lifted her up and pushed her into the kitchen, a fit of laughter escaped her mouth as he tickled her on the ribs. Nik laughed at the two, feeling a twinge of pain as he watched them interact together. He had never had that kind of relationship with anyone. Gia turned around and glared at him. “What are you laughing at prince?” Gia said walking up to him tickling his stomach. Nik laughed as he tried to stop her attack. “Gia, stop.” He managed between breaths. Gia looked behind her when she noticed the redirection of Nik’s gaze. They both burst out laughing. “What?” Seth mumbled, his mouth full of muffin. Gia walked up to him and kissed his puffy cheek as he grinned at her. “I have to go, I’ll see you guys later.” Gia said hiving him a hug. “Did you like the muffin’s?” She asked Nik as she walked over to him. “They were excellent, thank you.” Nik said. “No, thank you.” Gia said softly. She leaned in and kissed his cheek before walking out of the kitchen and heading up stairs to get dressed.

“So how did things go last night?” Seth asked as he poured himself a cup of coffee and then sat down. Gia had just left and Seth was concerned about his absence last night. “Well uh it was, it turned out OK. Seth, she told me what happened to her. When she was a little girl.” Nik said. Seth was shocked. “She did?” He said. “Yeah I, that’s awful what that sick pig did to her.” Nik said. Seth nodded his head slowly. “Yeah it is.” He said softly. Nik looked at him. “He’s dead right? Jeff?” Nik asked. Seth looked down at his coffee. “Yeah he’s dead.” He said slowly. “How did he die?” Nik asked. “Look Nikolas, I’m sorry, I would like to tell you but it’s really hard to talk about. There are a lot of bad memory’s for me from that time in my life.” Seth said. “Oh I understand, I’m sorry.” Nik said nodding, not really understanding. “I’m glad she told you, but I’m shocked. She doesn’t talk to anyone about it, I mean anyone besides me. She needs someone besides me to talk to about it and I think you’re the right person for that.” Seth said getting up and throwing away his trash. He started to walk out the door but stopped and looked down at the ground for moment. “Nikolas I, I tried to keep her safe I really did but I was so young then, I don’t want you to think that I didn’t try.” Seth said. “I know.” Nik said softly, he watched Seth walk out the door. He thought about what Seth said, he knew that Gia’s trust in him was something rare and he was not about to ruin it.

Gia walked up to the modernly decorated building and swung open the door. She made her way to the office in the back, reading the title on the door. Ned Ashton, it read. She knocked on the door and headed in. “Hi Mr. Ashton.” She said smiling. “Gia? Oh it’s nice to meet you in person.” Ned said as he shook her hand. “Please sit down.” He said gesturing to the chair across from his. “I’m sorry again for not coming by yesterday but as I said over the phone, a friend of mine works here and I didn’t want him to know that I was coming to meet with you.” Gia said. “Yes, that’s OK. Who’s your friend?” He asked. “Nikolas Cassadine.” Gia said. “Nikolas? Well you’re lucky to know him, he’s a great guy.” Ned said honestly. “Yes I am and I know he is.” Gia said smiling. “So Luke tells me that I would be a fool to pass a talent like you up, did you bring your demo tape?” Ned asked. “I have a tape but it’s nothing special.” Gia said shyly. “Do you mind singing a little for me?” Ned asked. Gia nodded her head and began to sing a few lines from the Billie Holiday song that she was singing the other night at Luke’s. Ned was impressed by her. “Well, Luke is a smart man. I’ll see what I can do for you Gia and I’ll be in touch.” Ned said. Gia, feeling defeated began to stand up. “Are you OK?” Ned asked, seeing her look of disappointment. “Well, it’s just that I really need a job, and it’s not like I had these bubble gum fantasy’s of having instant fame or anything but I just really need this, something to get me by, I mean I can’t depend on Seth forever because he needs his own money and I need my own money and I really.” “Gia!” Ned cut her off laughing. “Whoa, OK slow down. Look maybe I can think of something for you to do until we get started on your music career?” Ned said smiling at the fascinating woman who was rambling on in his office. “Really!” Gia exclaimed. “Do you know anything about PR work?” Ned asked. “No but I’m a quick learner.” Gia said hopefully. Ned smiled. “Well then I think I’ve hired myself a new PR rep.” Ned said. “Oh my god thank you so much Mr. Ashton!” Gia said jumping up and giving him a hug. “It’s Ned please and you’re welcome.” He said smiling as he pulled out of the hug they were in.
