My
New Best Friend CH 10
Warning!
This chapter is very intense and may be hard for some to read. It was difficult
for me to write so this is a warning that you might not want to read it. I’m
putting it in because I want to explain why Gia is the way she is. If you
don’t want to read it, basically it talks about the abuse Gia endured when she
was young.

Nikolas
sat at the table in his kitchen studying for a test he had coming up. He was
grateful that Gia and Seth were out at the moment, in the little time that his
new tenants had lived there, they had made themselves right at home. For the
most part, they stayed out of his way, but Gia was begging to be a distraction
from his studies and he really needed to get some work done. He talked to Seth
about it and he agreed to take Gia out for the afternoon so that he could get
some studying done. After getting a couple of hours of work done, he heard the
front door open. Gia walked in, by herself. “Hey what’s up?” She asked.
“Oh I uh, I’ve just been studying.” Nik said rubbing the back of his neck.
“Where’s Seth?” He asked. “Oh Carly called and she wants him to work
tonight, they’re swamped right now. Carly said that he could just crash at her
house, so I guess it’s just going to be you and me pal.” Gia said with a
smile. Great, Nik thought. “Oh, Seth said to say sorry?” Gia said shrugging.
She walked around the table and came up behind him. Nik closed his eyes when he
felt her hands on his shoulders. Gia began to massage him, kneading the tense
muscles until they softened. Her fingers rubbed in circles up his neck. Nik’s
breathing became slow, inhaling in and the slowly pushing out of his mouth as he
let his tension slip away. He moaned when Gia reached a particularly tense
muscle and rubbed it deeply. His heart began to pound as he felt Gia’s face at
his shoulder. “Does that feel good?” She whispered in his ear. Nik’s eyes
shot open. This was going to far. He reached up and grabbed her hands, holding
them within his. “Gia, I really have to get this done. Thank you, that felt
really good but do you think you can find something else to do?” Nik asked.
Nik felt her hands abruptly pull out of his hold. “Yeah, I know about your
deal with Seth, I’ll get out of your way.” Gia said walking around him.
“Gia.” Nik said. “No really I understand your busy, I’m just going to
get changed for bed and watch TV for a while.” Gia said. Nik nodded his head
and watched her leave.
Nik
looked up when he heard Gia pad downstairs. She was wearing practically nothing.
She always walked around half naked. Well so did Seth for that matter but it was
different with Gia. He watched as her long mocha legs moved towards him, her
white cotton shorts were so short Nik almost thought they were underwear. Her
white tank top clung to her skin, her navel was clearly revealed between her
shirt and her “shorts”. Nik’s throat tightened as she neared, he could see
her erect nipples through her thin shirt. She stopped in the doorway and smiled
at him. “You don’t mind me watching TV do you?” She asked. Nikolas’ lips
were parted as he looked at her. His eyes roaming all the way down her body and
then back up to her beautiful face. “Nikolas? Hello?” Gia said raising her
eyebrows. She held in a laugh at the look on his face. “Oh, I uh sorry, what
was that?” He stumbled. Gia smiled. “Will I be in the way if I watch TV?”
She asked again. “No go ahead, that’s fine.” Nik said when he pulled
himself together. Gia nodded as he smiled at her, she turned around and walked
out, never seeing his mouth drop at the sight of her beautiful backside that was
practically hanging out of her shorts.
After
sitting there numb, thinking about Gia, Nik went to work on his homework. When
he looked up at the clock he was shocked to see that it was 2:16 in the morning.
He stood up and stretched his arms and made his way to the stairs. He noticed
that the TV was still on; he walked over and began to shut it off. He nearly
jumped out of his skin when Gia reached out and touched his arm. Turning around
abruptly he looked at her in shock. “Gia, what are you doing up?” He asked
breathlessly. Gia looked down. “I was watching TV.” She said softly. “What
could possibly be on at 2:00 in the morning?” He asked. Gia said nothing. Nik
sat down in the space on the couch next to her. “Gia, what’s wrong?” Nik
asked. “Well Seth isn’t here and I didn’t want you to have to worry about
my nightmares so I thought that I just wouldn’t go to sleep.” Gia said not
looking at him. “Gia.” Nik said softly as he gently turned her face to meet
his gaze. “You can talk to me.” He said. Gia’s eyebrows knitted. “Talk
to you? Nikolas you don’t want to listen to my problems, you don’t have
time. Plus you hate me.” Gia said shaking her head. Nik’s heart sank; he
couldn’t believe she thought he hated her. Nik grabbed her hands and looked
into her eyes. “Gia I don’t hate you, you’re my friend and I want to help
you. Please talk to me.” Nik said touching her face lightly. Gia flashed him a
weak smile before sighing and laying her head against his chest. She began to
tell him about her childhood.
Nik
cried with her as she told her story, holding her tightly. “How can a man be
so sick?” Nik asked. “I don’t know, I didn’t think he was at first, no
one did. But the minute my mom was gone, he would completely change. He would
get drunk, at first when he started hitting me; I thought that was the end of my
life, that my stepfather hated me. But when he started getting weird, wanting me
to sit on his lap, or touching my legs. At first I thought he changed, I thought
he was starting to love me. But then I realized what he was doing was not
appropriate and it made me feel dirty. When I got older I would spend a lot of
nights at Seth’s house, but I couldn’t every night. My mom wouldn’t let
me.” Gia said as tears rolled down her face. “So what are the dreams
about?” Nik asked gently. Gia sighed and began to tell him her dream.
If
I could just keep my eyes closed, maybe he’ll think I’m asleep? That was the
thought that was going through Gia’s mind. It was the same thought she had
every time it happened, in her dreams or in reality. Her nine-year-old hands
clutched onto her blanket as she lay still, so still that her chest rising and
falling was the only indication that she was alive. She could hear the door
creek and the pounding of his footsteps as he approached her bed. Gia’s chest
began to contract faster as she felt him come near her. She almost stopped
breathing when she felt his hand touch her cheek. “Gia.” He said softly. Gia
continued to pretend to be asleep. “Gia you can’t fool me, I know you’re
awake. Your mother is working late and you know what that means.” He said as
his hands moved down her arm. Tears began to slowly make their way down her
cheeks but her eyes remained shut. As his hands touched her, she tried to do
what Seth told her to do, to pretend to be someplace else. But as his hands
traveled lower down her body, her eyes opened as her legs began to squirm.
“Please don’t, I want my mama.” Gia pleaded. Jeff laughed at her, mock
cackles escaping from his mouth as his weight pressed into her. “Stop laughing
at me I want my mama.” Gia cried, as his hands were just about to reach the
spot that made her cringe, her mom came in the room. “Mama, please help me.
Please!” She begged. Her mother started to walk towards her with her arms
open, but she suddenly vanished into thin air. “No! Don’t go, please don’t
go mama!” Gia cried. Jeff continued to laugh as he continued with his abuse as
Gia screamed, tears pouring down her face.
“I
always wake up screaming until I feel safe in Seth’s arms.” Gia said in a
light whimper. “Oh Gia, why didn’t anyone ever stop him?” Nik asked. “He
told me that if I ever told my mom or my brother that he would kill me.” Gia
said. Nik gasped lightly. “Gia I don’t know what to say to you, I’m so
sorry that that happened to you.” Nik said wiping the tears from her eyes as
tears poured out of his own. “You don’t have to say anything Nikolas, I
just, need someone to hold me. I’m so tiered I just want to go to sleep, but I
can’t.” Gia cried. “Shh.” Nik whispered as he held her, pulling back
slightly Nik pushed some of the braids that were in her face back as he looked
down at her. She was in his arms as she lay next to him on the couch. “I’ll
protect you Gia, I promise you that nothing bad will happen to you while I’m
around. You can go to sleep baby, I’ll make sure to scare the monsters
away.” Nik whispered. He slowly brought his head down; Gia could feel his warm
breath on her face. He looked down at her, her eyes looked so sad as they
searched his face. He brought his lips down to meet hers in a soft kiss, he felt
her return his kiss as her lips worked his. No kiss had never felt this way for
Nik, there was something magical that coursed through his body as their lips
connected. They pulled apart and Gia nestled herself in his strong arm. Nik’s
hand lazily stroked her smooth shoulder as he slowly closed his eyes. “Thank
you.” Gia said softly before drifting off into sleep.
