To dream is to live, to live is to dream, but to live a life without a dream is a life not worth living.

CH 26

Gia’s vision was blurred as she ran; she didn’t even know where she was going. All that she knew was that she needed to get away. She ran with great speed to get away from the scene she just saw. Her chest was heaving and she coughed as soon as she stopped her running, placing her hands on her knees to sturdy herself. She panted as she stood there, looking around to see where she had stopped. She had run with no direction, just letting her feet take her away from that wretched Kelly’s place. She looked out to see the ocean; and it was then that she noticed that the firm surface under her feet was the wood of a dock.

See the pyramids around the Nile
Watch the sunrise from a tropic isle
Just remember darlin all the while,
You belong to me.

Wrapping her arms around herself, Gia stood up straight and slowly walked the dock, heading towards a bench that she spotted, her shoes clunking against the wood beneath her. She sat down and pulled her knees up, hugging them for comfort. She let her tears come, crying loudly in her private little spot. She couldn’t believe that out of all the places in the world, her brother happened to live in the same town as the man in her dreams. This whole time, he had a small connection to her life and she never even knew it. She barely even believed it, wondering if she was seeing things, making things up in her mind, but she knew without a doubt that that was Nikolas. Now that she found him, she saw that not only did he have a life that she was not a part of, but he was happy and in love in it.

See the market place in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souveniers,
Just remember when a dream appears,
You belong to me.

Gia stood up and wiped her wet face with her hands. She sniffled as she walked towards the edge of the docks and gazed out at the water. Would she ever be able to look out at water again without thinking about Nikolas? Knowing that he was real was not only miraculous and bizarre, but it left her questioning her own feelings of their dreams. Was he anything like he was in their dreams? If he was then she longed to be with him. But what if he didn’t even feel the same way as she did out side of the dreams? What if he didn’t pine and yearn to be with her like she did for him? Maybe to him their dreams were a nuisance and he dreaded having them? After all, in that one terrible dream, he did tell her that he was in love with someone else and that she wasn’t real. Gia began to cry again. How stupid and self-centered she had been to think that he would want to abandon his life and his girlfriend just for her. She needed to leave. She needed to go back to Brooklyn and forget about Nikolas Cassadine. He has a life and she needed to let him live it. She stood up and slowly turned and began to walk across the docks.

And I'll be so alone without you,
Maybe you'll be lonesome too.
Fly the ocean in a silver plane,
See the jungle when it's wet with rain.
Just remember til you're home again
You belong to me.

Nikolas had no idea where to look for Gia. He thought about the hospital but something was keeping him from going there. Instead he just briskly walked, not quite sure where he was headed but just let his heart guide him to her. Could she really be alive and in Port Charles? The way Lucky described her was absolutely perfect. Her skin, her eyes and her hair, it was Gia. He was shaking with nerves. His heart was pounding as he walked. He reached the docks and kept walking, not really looking for her here but something caught his eye. He swore that in the distance he could see her hair, her lovely braids that made her unique, made her Gia. He quickened his pace and he thought that his heart would explode it was pounding so hard. Tears hazed his eyes as he began to run towards her.

Oh I'll be so alone without you,
Maybe you'll be lonesome too.

Fly the ocean in a silver plane,
See the jungle when it's wet with rain.
Just remember til you're home again
You belong to me

She stopped when she heard someone behind her, her heart pounded with a slight fear, the little hairs on the back of her neck perked with an excited shiver. She remembered times when her body would react just this way. Nikolas could always make her body jolt with excitement. She stood so still, her chest contracting lightly. “Gia?” Nik breathed. He couldn’t take his eyes off of the form in front if him. He had been glued to his spot as soon as she had stopped, when she was just about to reach the steps. He could recognize her body anywhere he thought. He had memorized her figure countless times so that he would remember when he woke up. This was she, this was the woman who had walked along a beach and made his heart speed at just a glimpse, this was Gia. “Am I dreaming? Oh god, please don’t let me be dreaming.” Nik said aloud. Gia turned around to face him and Nik felt like all the breath in his lungs had escaped him. Their eyes were held in an intense, lust and wonder filled gaze that left them both numb. “No Nikolas. You’re not dreaming. It’s me.” Gia answered.
